the way i do it is, hold the shutter button half way down. the camera should focus and when you press it all the way down the picture will be taken

See if you have a burst mode. Then you can take a few pics and delete the blurry ones. Plus, macro mode is critical. If you don't have a macro mode, the manual should specify appropriate focal distance for macro pics.

also double check the programable settings on your camera. mine can set the focus to Spot, Center or Frame and the metering (light) has the same options.

I always go Spot focus and Center metering. Along with the Macro option you should be able to turn out some nice pictures for sexing.

Good call on the shutter burst mode thing. I use that if I can't rest the camera on the pot to take steady shots.

if someone wants to help me out id appreciate it very much. i just bought a sony DSLR a200, it has macro and a manual, it dont say shit neither. i have a few questions, but to set the situation up.. i have the normal lense, 18-70mm and a 70-300mm, obviously "i think" the 18-70 would work better for bud pics, i tried using it a foot or 2 away, it came out nice. this is a 10.2 mp my question is how do i get even better pics? is there any tricks on taking these pics, i have a sick collection that i think i should throw up, along with some other pics. do i really need a 12 mp camera to get in that shit, or am i doing something wrong than ks

a 10.2 is nice. it should be plenty for very detailed and large bud pics. i'm running with an 8.1 Sony Cybershot and my friend has a 10MP. comparativly his are better every time.

if you're going to upgrade i'd say go for 13mp +. 10 is plenty otherwise.

pull up the guide for your camera online. it helps to read it cover to cover you'll learn alot.
