Slugs found on one of my babies. Shes dead now. wtf?

Slugs murdered a few of my babies! Is this because of the location? (swampy) should the rest be moved?

Hey -

Yes -- What Bionic said above!! I can not imagine growing outdoor MJ in Maine without using - SLUG & SAIL BAIT - In just one night a dozen or so slugs & snails can eat all the leaves and youngest stems off a 3 foot tall plant!!

As a matter of fact many new or less experienced outdoor growers go out to visit the crop only to find it has been eaten.... They assume deer did the deed but more often than not it's the slugs & snails who did the crime!!

Also.... If you check out the new photos in my 2008 grow thread you can see the SLUG & SAIL BAIT pellets on the ground around the plants I just planted!

If you want to go and not harm any of the slugs you can buy Copper rings and weld them together from almost any DIY store or buy them from places like Slug Rings (I take it you live in the US so that site might not be of any use)

Copper gives slugs a little shock when they touch it and will turn away and leave your crop alone. Pennies, Copper wire etc will all do basically the same job. I'll post up some pictures of my current grow (Really should make that Journal) and show you.

Good Luck on your grow.

That's a good idea. You could buy 1 inch copper couplers from Home Depot and cut them into smaller rings to put near the plants. Or just buy some house wire, 14/2, and strip off the insulation and make rings to go around the stems.

Other options are to make beer traps. Cut the bottom 3/4" of a pop or beer can off. Fill it half way with been and bury it flush with the ground near your plant. The slugs go to the smell and fall in and drown. If it rains you have to go and replace the beer.

you could probably use salt too. they hate that shit. just try to keep it away from your plants roots. try that and see if it works.

Here's a picture of one of my plants a week ago for a general idea. As you can see my plants took a bit of beating from the slugs but since the copper have had none touch em since.

It's a UK site so I don't know if they ship to the US, but there is bound to be something similiar over that pond.

Use copper rings like in these pics: http://forum.grasscity.com/general-o...utdoors-2.html

I got it at Lowe's. Its about a buck per foot. 10 inches does one ring. Just bend them into circles...no need for welding.
