yeah if you just gut one plant and you want to put it in a pot, use a farily large one. id say more than 5 gallons preferably. good soil you can just buy a few bags of potting soil. water with fish emulsion during veg state and something higher in phosphorous for flowering. you can use fox farms big bloom or tiger bloom or something of that nature. ive never used drip irigation systems but as long as the pot is larger you wont have to water too much. you can also add more perlite and vermiculite to the mix to help retain water so you dont hasve to keep goin back there.

for deer, you can use ceyyenne pepper on the leaves and also a diluted garlic/ dishsoap solution. i use animal-off which is made from cayenne peppers. available at your local gardening store.

This is all good advice. Best way to avoid deer is to put the potted plant in a tree (there are many ways to do this). This also avoids a lof of the problems with outdoor growing (don't normally see pot growing up in the air on the branches of trees). Just make sure that you camoflauge your pot. I suppose it would be possible to do some kind of drip irrigation even in a tree, but you might also look into a dew collector situation (google it) and if you could come up with a way to conceal that in a tree as well, you would have yourself a mighty fine outdoor stealth grow.
