I think the best bet outdoors is to provide the plants with a fairly complete mix for them to start off with so no more than a couple times through the whole grow process should you have to hit them with a compost tea or nutrient solution.
Mine are doing quite well in a pro-mix, tablespoon of powdered lime per gallon of soil, coarse perlite, EWC, Composted Manure in the bottom of the hole at about 4-6 inches deep and on top about a inch deep, mushroom compost mixed throughout.
