Will my soil kill my sprouts?
I have mixed up quite a bit of soil in a recipe that was highly reccomended, blood & bone meal, Sunshine Mix, Lime, Epsom Salt, ect. Except I have just read that planting your germinted seeds in this mix will kill them. Something about the blood meal or something kills the baby plants. Is there any truth to this?
Can I use some regular potting soil in Jiffy Pots to start my seedlings then just transfer them to my good soil? Will this work, or will the jiffy pots as a buffer between the two soils mess it up? Thanks |

I'd pull those seedlings out asap and get them into some new soil without nutrients like that. The nutrients in that seem like they are for already-growing plants to be transplanted into. I have no idea what a jiffy pot is : / (It's either the fact i'm really stoned, or I just don't know. OR BOTH!) But iAMtheLiquor is right about that soil.

Nah, I have used Miracle Grow soil for a while, as well as some of their fertilizers. Try and use the ones that DO NOT include "Feeds for up to 3 months". This feeds nitrogen into the soil which you DO NOT want in the flowering process. The flowering process in many cases begins in less than three months.

So....
I'm growing in a prarie in the midwest. Theres alot of growth and lots of plants. Should I just go get some of that soil to start my plants off in? This grow is very near a farm that grows corn and soybeans, and they might have had chemicals used for the crops, will this have ruined any of the soil nearby? |

You could always take some soil from your plot and some organic soil with no added nutes mix them together and use that for your seedlings in regular pots(plastic ones). I thought jiffy pots were for indoor growing but i am new to growing so im not sure.
You may want to look at using peat pots I dont like them my self, had bad experiences with these but some people abide by them. with in regards to the chemicals used for the crops near your plot, in my opinion they wouldnt harm the soil as they probally continue to grow crops there right ? |

Good question about the crop pestacides possibly contaminating your soil. I am not sure about that. I suppose you will have to try and see what happens. I doubt anyone here knows about the corn pestacide sprays.
However, just get some soil from the plot, put it in a large plastic cup or small pot, and start your seeds in there. Whether that corn field is sprayed or not, it will definitely be better for the plant than the fertilizer stuff you were planning on using before. |
