How big should an outdoor plant be before I take a clone of it?

I was wanting to ask the same question and as well if you take a clone from a female plant is the clone gauranteed to be female this may sound dumb but I dont know.

indoor or out is the same. you can clone as late as 3 weeks into flower. i've popped beans and let them get 3 or 4 internodes tall and cut them and put them in the fridge to use later. a cut from a female will always be a female. it will be genetically identical.

to answer both questions, a clone (or cutting) is a genetic duplicate of the host plant. If you root cuttings from a female plant it will always be female, although some stress will cause the female to also make male flowers.

I take cuttings when I have several branches from which to take cuttings. Some will clone the growing tip, effectively topping the plant at the same time. I like that big main cola, so I take branches to root.
