Emag's Outdoor Journal

Planted about 80 bag seed on April 7th, then sprouted 8 seeds I got out of some outdoor from Cali a friend brought back for me in some water, and planted them a little later in the week, on the 10th or 11th.

Had to plant the bag seed right in the soil, because I didn't have the space/resources to start them indoors and move them outside, but I wanted to make sure at least the Cali seeds made it. They all sprouted, so I'm excited to see if they grow as well as they sprouted.

At this point, there isn't a whole lot to photograph, but I snapped a few pics...

I've got about 5 or 6 sprouts from the Cali seeds and 20-25 of the bagseed. I'm sure there's more of the bagseed, but there was a storm, and some of them are covered with leaves, and whatnot. I spent a while today clearing my area, and found a bunch of sprouts. Need to get back out this weekend and get the whole area cleaned up. I'm expecting at least 40-50 of the bagseed to sprout.

Anyways, here's some pics...
First one is of a bright red tiny little bug that was crawling around my sprouts...

Went back today, they are doing pretty well, all plants are pushing out their first set of true leaves. I'd say I'm still at about 40 sprouts from the bagseed, maybe 45, I'm pretty sure I uncovered a few more.

The seeds from Cali are definitely looking the best right now. Strong stems, and the biggest leaves out of all my plants.

Not too many pics, since they all look the same. In this one little patch that you see in the circle of sticks, I've got probably 25 sprouts, I'm going to spread them out a little, but it's easier for right now for them to be all in the same area.

25 bagseed

none of those will grow that close together. Your roots can choke eachother plants roots out.

By planting 80 seeds in a small plot.

I know they won't continue to grow so close together...but for the time being this is perfect for my situation.

They will be moved very soon to a better spot and each plant will be given much more room to grow.

Appreciate the concern though!

Hey good luck on the outdoor op. Hopefully those Cali unknowns will turn female as well as the bagseeds. Dam that red bug looks like some sort of tick, chigger or mite. Although I think chiggers and mites are smaller and I don't think I've seen a bright red tick like that lol. But yeah man good luck. When you transplant those are you going to put them in containers or straight in the ground? Have you been thinking about how you might prepare the soil?

I'm just going to plant them right back in the same soil, just a little big more hidden since they are right off of a path that gets used once in a while...I don't think anyone will find them now, but once they are 2ft+ they might be noticeable.

I might try using some nutrients once I get them transplanted...but I won't be with them all summer, my buddy will be taking care of them for me since he lives in the area year round. Hopefully I'll get the chance to come down and see them once or twice this summer, but they are really in his hands once I'm done with the semester.

Did some transplanting today.

Moved about 25 plants all about the size of the ones in the photo to where I planted the Cali seeds, which is about 25ft higher than where they were before. I left about 10 at the lower spot because I was tired, and think I might leave them there, not sure yet. Spaced them out a lot more once I transplanted them. Got them in nice rows...

Still have to get some foliage moved overhead...but there isn't even a bud on any of the bigger trees in the area. Kind of odd, but it's giving me time before I have to start trimming away at some of them.

2nd pic is left half, 3rd pic is right half...if you look close, you can see a bunch of little sticks marking each plant.

That bug looks like a red spider mite, the absolute bane of marijuana plants.
If you see anymore of those, look up ways to kill them as they will destroy your plants slowly.

Thanks fellow skaters! Always good to see the sport is still alive...

I just planted in the soil at the spot, didn't expect so many to sprout really...but I'm pumped that they did.

I'm not worried about the cops checking my fingerprints from a picture...if they wanted to, I'm sure they could trace me through my posts. Besides, I don't think you can lift a finger print from a picture...at least not yet.

The plants are not in Chicago...

btw, how do you know ALL of the soil outdoors in the Chicago area is bad?

Thanks for the advise craig, I've only seen that one, but if I continue to see more, I will definitely look into methods to get rid of them.

I'm hoping they take well to the transplant...I'll be updating the thread tomorrow with pics, hopefully pics of some healthy transplants, we'll see.

I went and checked on the transplants today, they are doing fine, doesn't look like a single one died from the transplant.

I didn't think they would all survive the transplant.

The only problem I'm having right now is that I feel like they are not growing very fast.

Is there any type of nutrient I can give them to help with young vegetative growth? Is there a specific NPK count for young plants?

Here's one of the plants that I didn't transplant, and it's one of the biggest I have growing right now...does it look small for being planted 2 weeks and 4 days ago?

Maybe I'm just being ansty...I want to see some bushes already!
