small plants in big pots

for some reason i keep thinkin that i read somewhere that a small plant ( 5-10 inches ) should not be put in a huge container, say a 5 gallon bucket, but rather as it outgrows the pots put them into the bigger pots.

well my question to the community is, is this true, and if sowhat are the cons of puting a small plant into a larger container

false. dont make the plant undergo the stress of a transplant, if you can, leave it in a big one throughout.

high times says transplant a clone thats well rooted into a 1 gallon pot and keep in there until its 12 to14 inches or a month which ever comes sooner
then put into the final pot
rule of thumb is 1 gallon per month of growth
if ur vegging for 2 months and 2 months of flowering then 5 gallon is perfect
dont under size because for alittle bit of dirt cost ull lose dank bud....... just my opinion
i put the clone into a 1 gallon cont with coco/perlite mix and within 3 weeks it was ready for a transplant into 3 gallon since it only had about 7 weeks left to go
when i go into my greenhouse i plan on putting some plants out between may and june and they will be in there until sometime in october so ill be using 10 gallon pots minimum most likely 18 gallon containers filled 3/4 full......... its worth the initial investment imho
