Has anyone used jiffy pots?

I was thinking after I germinate my seeds i'll put them in jiffy pots, the kinds that you plant directly into the ground. i'll put the jiffy pots on a sunny windowsill and water when needed. once it begins to grow a set of leaves, i'll implant the pots in the soil.

this is going to be my first grow by the way. all help is appreciated.

Everything I've read recommends against using Jiffy cubes/pots. My roommate tried using them and left them in too intense of sun, which effectively cooked them. You might be okay as long as you were really attentive, but just my two cents :)

However, rockwool cubes, if you can find them, are a great way to start seeds, as I understand it. Too bad I couldn't find any until I had already germinated and planted my seeds. But I personally will be trying them for my next few, which I may be planting in the next couple weeks.

thanks. so if i don't use jiffy pots i should just use regular party cups or something and then transplant them into the ground after they've been on the windowsill for a while?

I don't see an advantage to using peat pots or pellets. My first seed to ever grow into a harvest able plant did begin in a jiffy pellet, but that was because I didn't have any seed starting mix on hand and didn't feel like sieving sphagnum moss to make some. it grew fine, but so do those that I plant in Solo cups. If ya got 'em use 'em but I wouldn't make a special trip to buy them.
