planning to grow in NY and need a little help

i just want to know when the best time would be to start growing. also this is going to be my first grow outdoors i found a perfect spot in the woods by a near by pond so what would be a good strain of seed to buy and what other supplies do i need to grow? do i need anything speaical for flowering? do i need to buy gallon pots to put them in? any fertilzer and if so which kind?

I've personally never grown outside, but i can answer a couple of your questions...

I'm not sure exactly what the best strain would be, but when you go to buy the seeds, you can look at the description, and, on most sites, see if the strain is better suited for indoor or outdoor growth.

If you're going to use any kind of container, use larger than 1gal... Container or no, you'll want to search for a good soil mixture on these forums and either fill your container, or a hole you dig, with that. As for ferts, i suppose you could use the same veg and bloom ferts that you would use for indoor growing as well, but be careful not to overfertilize.

I dont know if you need to do anything special for flowering, but obviously you wont get to choose the day it begins, as you would indoors.

If you have a safe location, I would start the seed in small cups, or jiffy (peat) pots and then transplant the seedlings directly into the soil. Sprinkle a handful of Osmokote around the transplant, water in and let em grow through the summer.

If you plant on visiting the plot to maintain it... you'd be better off to just prep the holes ahead of time, at least a month, so the nutes have time to break down before you put the seedlings in.

Dig a 2' x 2' hole, amend it with some blood/bone meal, greensand, dolomite, worm castings, and if needed perlite.

Mix it in good, and let it sit at least a month... now all you gotta do is go back every now and then to water, and there's nothing dangerous about carrying water from that pond...

yea i think that the smartest way to go. b/c lugging all the stuff there will be hard so that what i am planning on doing. also the spot that i have selected is about 10' x 12' does anyone know how many plants i can grow in that space?

whats wrong with using the pond for water. the ph balance or is there bacteria or other harmful stuff. need to know?

so i am wondering what kind of ferts to use and also how do you clone plants? can you just take cutting's from anywhere?

for ferts try fox farms. get the three main ferts(big bloom,grow big,tiger bloom) and than get the three pack of dry ferts(open sysami,beastybloom,.. the 3 pack. Would run you around 100 dollars but i think it will be worth it. YOur bud quality and yeild will sore.
