smoking and usage

i want to take an early clipping of bud from my plant to get a sense of how its going to be

....
now where is the best place to do this, like the lower branches or the top cola's

and can i chop a half bud or do i need to clip a whole one????

I've taken a couple of lower branches that only had tiny buds on them to smoke while waiting for my girls to mature.
