Im growing on an island surrounded by salt water and I have so many ants in my pots. The ants are black and tiny, they're only chillin in the soil, not on the leaves or stem just the soil. It looks like the whole soil is moving when u look close. Will this be a problem now or eventually? Ive been growing here for about a month and have not seen them on the plants itself just the soil.
If this is a problem can i put the pots in a bucket with some water in it to trap the ants and drown them? would this cause root rot if the roots grow out of the pot into the water? Maybe i should just use a pesticide i dunno. Any help would be great thanks

I think any insect in your plant medium is a bad thing.
You can try leaching your soil, then transplanting your plants.
Bug spray your previous pots, then use dilluted Hydrogen Peroxide(not the shelf kind)
and flush away/wash your pots after.Use ant traps,stickey traps,etc..
to help prevent the ants travelling to your pots again.Ive never had an ant problem
myself, and dont know how to handle it that well.
Do some research on the internet, and you will find better facts.

Man, just set up a bunch of ant traps or whatever, you can buy em just about anywhere.

I have a giant fucking ant hill next to my plot they help keep the bad guys away.

i have that problem too more usually undernieth the pots...i lift up the pots and theres eggs and ants everywhere they dont seem to harm the plants thoe i just stir up there nest and kill as many as possible

GRITS!
pour grits on the ant hill and the ants will take them in and give them to the queen. after she drinks water the grits will expand, killing the queen. The ant hill should be gone in about a week.

when you water your plants use hot water to kill the ants...im not sure if it will harm the plant though. not too hot.
