sprout question

how long does a sprout usually take to break through the surface. I planted Friday around noon and today I went and out of 18 only one popped, and it was only like a 1/2 inch above soil. So it has been about 4 days. I ask because I want to make sure that the problem isnt my spots I have chosen, maybe not enough sun, but I beleive the spot with the sprout which popped gets about as much as the others. Maybe its just how deep I put them (around 1/4 inch down) and they are still waiting to emerge. from you experience, about how many days does a sprout take to break the surface (seed was germinated when planteD) and when would you start to worry about it not poppin at all. thanks alot guys.

PS - I tried looking it up but couldnt really find anything, just found things on how to care for sprouts, notthing regarding how long they take to pop. thanks

From my experiance, I germinated my seeds before planting them too but I let mine go too long germinating before I got them underground, but even with the delayed planting, they still took at least 3 days to pop their heads out. But yes, be sure they are getting enough moisture and sun. Are they in pots, or in the earth itself?? Maybe check the PH of the soil.

they are in ground with soil replaced with better soil. like i said its been since Friday so i hope they are cool.

these are my seeds...they sprouted exactly 5 days ago.
I germinated them in a paper towel (actually like 50to maintain enough moisture without drying out) on a plate full of water on top of my house stereo in two days.
Then i placed them directly on top of a full 4"pot full of presoaked dirt with the root tip pushed into the dirt, with a little dry dirt sprinkled overtop to simulate being buried....
then placed about 18" under a 1000watt MH......so seven days ago these were still dry seeds. the heat from the bulb is the secret.......not too much though or theyll ALL die!!!
