water in holes

hey all. i just went and dug some holes. im going to put in brand new bagged soil. but at the bottom of one or two of the holes, there is a small puddle of water thats sitting on the clay bottom. now it just rained here last day or so (NE USA) so everything is very wet, but if there is a small puddle of water does that mean I cant use that spot b/c od potential root rot? or will it help when I fill the hole with new soil, and a good amount of perlite? it looked like as I was digging, water began to seep into the hole from the surround ground.

how about putting a nice, 1 inch layer of perlite at the bottom of the hole, then put in the soil...? will these alleviate it somewhat?

these are nice spots, and I already dug the holes, so im hoping it can be rectified, or maybe its not that big of a problem. its not like the entire hole is water, just about an inch or so on the bottom. If it was swamp all the time i wouldnt have dug them, but its just a forest. the area isnt swampy or anything like that, it is just a clearing in the forest. what do you think?

your ok because summer heat will lower the watertable, it really depends on common sense dude. cons: if the hole is not that deep and the table is high and your main root structure is submerged in the water you'll get root rot.

last year i had a watertable 3-4 ft depth for the roots to sense the moisture and stretch downwards supplying fresh constant water all season
