bud drying too fast....

hey guys. now that i have started drying my bud, i think i may be drying it too fast. the relative humudity is like 62% and the temp is 70, is that cool? i think its just b/c i had a fan blowing directly on the bud, which i think dried it out vey fast , so im gonna take it off of it. so far, my bud went from 44 grams to 16 lol, and i hope it will not drop much more cuz i think its done drying. is it possible to dry something to fast? if so, can i jus cure it and continue the regular process. just b/c it was dried too fast dont mean it wont be good, right? thanks alot

I donīt know about too fast, but you can certainly OVERdry. Then the bud is dried to a crisp and crumbles at a touch. You can reverse the situation if this happens by putting the bud in a Tupperware (Rubbermaid US ??) container with a few slices of raw potato, or some orange peel.

I donīt have any fans on my bud, they hang in a shed with the door held open to give some air flow. I find hanging the whole plant makes the bud dry slower and I can keep an eye on her better. They are done when the leaves are crispy dry. The bud must have some moisture in it, but not so much that it will rot or mould during the curing, which takes a month - it is a delicate balance which has taken me a long time to learn to get right.

But properly cured bud is a total joy to smoke, as we all know, and will keep indefinitely in an airtight container. Just donīt freeze it.

Good luck.

So when curing you just leave it in an airtight jar for however long you want?
Do you just leave it or do you have to open it daily to let new air in etc?
Sorry for hi-jacking the thread a bit... still seems relevant though.

Sure is relevant, eclipse.
Keep in an airtight container. I have used mason jars in the past, but I have found I need so many of them I am now using ziploc bags. Open daily to let moisture out, for the first week I open for 30 minutes a day, after that 10 minutes a day. After 30 days, WHHEEEE they are done. And the longer they stay in the container, the better they get.

spanishfly, so if u hang the whole plant leafs and all when it dries will the bud be more leafy than if u clipped it then hanged it? and when hanging the whole plant its ready to go into curing when the leaves are crispy- could u describe that more? do u know anything about hanging the bud already clipped and when to tell when its done drying then?

Its only important to keep the leaves on the plant so you can judge how dry she is. If you manicure before you dry than its hard to tell. The bud leaves also are covered in trich's that add to overall potency of the bud & when curing they wick moisture out from the center. Cured bud should be soft and the stems smokable.

You got it exactly PlanB. If I might make so bold, you seem to know what you are talking about.

i manicure before i dry.

i hang dry.

and i know when its dry enough to start to cure when i hear the ever so tinyest 'snap' when the bud breaks and doesnt bend anymore off the main stems.

If mine get that far, they are overdry. May be a difference in climate.
