I always looked at the whole point of life is to overcome the challenge. It goes like this. We are a simple minded species inside an envelope of organic matter. We are thrust into society; one that demands certain ineffable and intangible accomplishments. That in and of itself lends itself to one idea. There is no "reality." Reality is only in our minds. Take a conversation for instance. What information is passed between two people is based as much on intangible language like body language, tone of voice, facial expressions etc as actual speech. It is up to us to properly interpret that info and keep moving on in the conversation. Reality is simpley OUR perception based on our interpretations of what our senses can tell us. That being said, anything that alter our perception (weed, alcohol, salvia, X, anything) is going to alter our views of reality. Its our job as humans to undertand/learn/and filter out any effects that may be had on our perception for ANY reason and continue on.
Next. Where's my bud!; You are 100% right that making money and all the earthly b.s. isn't a ticket to happiness and I too have known many rich people who are mean and angry bitter depressed people. But that is because they do not focus on anything but the world that is material. Its the imaterial that matters; and I thinkour "purpose." We must live. That is our job no matter what someone believes about a better place being out there; we are not there and were not placed there so it is our purpose to live until sent to the other place naturally. why? because there is so much to learn here. That's where I think people fuck it up. They try to learn everything from text books and what they're told in church. They don't think and question "why" about the text book and the don't ask "why" at church. Doing things like this has enriched me greatly. I still go to church (though I am far from a literal follower) and I stil read and study (for knowledge; I'm graduated from college now). Because of things like this material wealth is more fun and not pointless and the simple things in life are the most important. Making my wife smile because I brought her home a balloon one day on my way home from work are those kind of simple things. enriching the world around you is what matters. Smiling to people matters. Being extra nice to the gas station attendant matters. You might just be the highlight of their day. And when I get in my car (2008 civic SI) I melt into the seat. I run through the gears and smile and think "I love this car." In short; our life is material. we are physical beings in a physical world and are meant to stay that way as long as possible. That's the point of life; not dying! Therfor material things cannot be dismissed. On the other hand, we are also required to explore the intangible and enrich ourselves in that manner as well. Perhaps there is something else out there; if so then we need to gain wisdom and peace or we are unfit for it.
Just my 2 or 3 cents. Take heart Wheres my bud!. It may seem pointless at times but the challenge of survival and the wisdom that brings is our purpose here. And since reality is our own perception; it can change. You can learn to make the world what you want it to be just by changing you perspective. When you boss pisses you off you could say to yourself "what an asshole! I shouldn't have to take that shit!" or you can say to yourself "someone needs a nap!. lol" and brush it off. The second make life a lot more fun. And it is as simple as that. Its a skill that takes time, but you can learn it. I have.
Ok, I'm done. Peace out blades.
