Re: You Are Going Directly to Jail: A New NORML Report on Drugged Driving (A Must Rea

The way I see it is if you are obvious enough to be pulled over for driving bad and fail a field sobriety test because you are high, you deserved to be punished; that means you went driving when you were WAY too high. Now I know a lot of people who drive stoned and can do it without hassle, yet they know when they are "too high" and can't drive safe, so they stay at home.

It really just depends on a personally opinion of your driving skills. If you can do it, solid, but if not, don't risk the lives of others or yourself.

Re: You Are Going Directly to Jail: A New NORML Report on Drugged Driving (A Must Rea

americas government is at that awkward stage.. its too late to work within the system but too early to shoot the bastards.

Personally ive driven blazed probably around 400-500 times (never drunk), always drive perfectly fine, i actually drive a little slower and make sure i concentrate better on the road than normal and the only time ive ever gotten in a crash in my life was when i was stone cold sober. these zero tolerance laws are just proposterous tho. riots...

Re: You Are Going Directly to Jail: A New NORML Report on Drugged Driving (A Must Rea

hmmmm interesting because if cops get fucked up on alcohol to chill out after a crazy day of fucking people over, wouldnt that mean the next day they would be screwed under that rule? and for that matter what about if the governor's son of some state smokes, wouldnt he be in trouble too? or even a judge? oh wait i forgot that the law doesnt screw itself over so all the people in the system would be protected and we would all be super SCREWED! how can they do this though? would they really just start demanding everyone pulled over to submit a blood or saliva test??

if so im getting the fuck out of this country no joke

youre clearly not understanding the point of the article. if i get pulled over today for running a stop sign and say, i smoked a week ago, they want to drug test me and suspend my license because i had thc in my system regardless of the fact it wasnt impairing my driving ability.

Re: You Are Going Directly to Jail: A New NORML Report on Drugged Driving (A Must Rea

You all have to think about the fact if is ever going to be legal, there has to be something in place to protect the general public from drugged drivers, otherwise they will not be as accepting. I agree that weed is much safer than alchohol, but there are still risks involved. I myself will not smoke and drive, mainly because of the legal risks. I already have 2 DUI's on me, and occasionally do drink and drive, but am very careful about staying within the limit. This zero tolerance crap is not acceptabe though as it can stay in your system weeks after consumption, when the actual effects have long been gone. The main reason behind this is because it is illegal. But I do agree that if you are pulled over and have an obvious odor of weed on you that it should be treated as the same as drinking and driving. But they do need to come up with a test that will show your actual "high" level. Come on, we can put people into space, I am sure we can do that. With the leaps and bounds that are going on in California, I am sure something has got to be in the works.
Just my opinion.

Prohibition adds a high risk factor to the drug trade. That pushes up prices while basic production costs remain the same. Removing prohibition removes a good deal of the profit. In addition, moving the trade out of the darkness of black markets would allow legal proceedings to replace violence as a means of resolving disputes over drug sales and turf wars.

Cop pulls you over for "erratic driving." (Even though you are sober at the time.) Despite passing field sobriety tests, the cop still "suspects" that you are high. (Let's pretend that the cop says he smelled pot.) He takes you in and makes you pee in a cup. You test positive, despite not having smoked for days. State Laws say that anyone caught driving under the influence of drugs forfeits their vehicle, pays fines, and does time.

Seat belt laws give them probable cause now. You forget to put your seatbelt on as a stoner, you may be facing time and forfeiture of property.

This is an all-out witch hunt against people who chose cannabis over the "regulated" alcohol, prescription drugs, etc. Persons who may be more apt to be pulled over, (read: colored people) will once again bear the brunt of these laws.

Still convinced that you just need to drive sober and all will be OK??
I am absolutely against driving impaired as well. That is not being addressed by these "no tolerance" laws.

Re: You Are Going Directly to Jail: A New NORML Report on Drugged Driving (A Must Rea

I understood fully what the article was saying, that's not what I was replying to. It was from a post somewhere on the first page talking about the safety of driving sober vs high. Sorry for the confusion.

And no, I don't think it's right and it will never pass because there will be even MORE people in jail, or there will be more people walking, riding bikes and taking the bus.

It appears that this was written in 2005.

I am now facing up 30 days in jail as well as 2 years of probation.

Do you believe our drug policy is fair?

Re: You Are Going Directly to Jail: A New NORML Report on Drugged Driving (A Must Rea

10 Minnesota's law exempts marijuana and marijuana metabolites, stating, "It is a crime for any person to drive, operate, or be in physical control of any motor vehicle ... when the person's body contains any amount of a controlled substance in schedule I or II other than marijuana or tetrahydrocannabinols."

Does that mean you can legally drive high in Minnesota and not get a DUI or DWI???

So, what's happened since 2005? I have to admit that this is the first I have ever heard of this.

"We need to treat DUID as important [an offense] as murder, rape, and child molestation."

That is fucked up.
