Re: The Irony Of Holland's Smoking Ban

Sounds perfect to me. I don't want to be around poison cancer tobacco when I'm trying to enjoy some weed. I'm not seeing the "irony" of this ban. This is just common sense, and how it should be everywhere. I support this.

"Coffee shop employees, he argues, also have the right to protection from tobacco smoke. "

If this is true, and coffee shop employees and owners have that right, shouldn't they also have the right, if they so decide, to allow smoking?

Re: The Irony Of Holland's Smoking Ban

I haven't been in Amsterdam since 1992. It was so free then, I remember seeing a sign on a resturant door in Amersfoort that read (in English because I believe they were the complainers) :

This resturant is a smoking establishment. We have no designated smoking areas. You can smoke where you wish. Tobacco or Marijuana. If you don't like this situation, we are sorry."

Sounds like it is going backwards...

I was actually planning a trip right now for 2 weeks with my wife at the end of November for the Cannibus Cup... but with all the rules... I don't know. Either way, I still have to go see relatives.

If I was a cop in Holland I would be the joint inspector.

Re: The Irony Of Holland's Smoking Ban

A coffeeshop owner that was smart would outfit the workers in Astronaut Suits instead of driving away clients and putting up walls in already tiny places.

Just got back from Amsterdam, and it is just silly there. I'll never go back there. You have to go to one place to get a beer, another to buy weed, another place to smoke your weed, and you have to go somewhere else yet again to have a cigarette. Some places "secretly" allow smoking though.

I wonder if in two years, when the Dutch ban fatty foods, if you will have to go to one restaurant to buy a bun, a second to get your meat, and another restricted shop to get your "bad and fatty" toppings like cheese and butter.

It's hard to believe it's like that now... not saying you are lying by any means. When I was there in 92 it was SOOOOOO lax. That's when you could still buy ecstacy (real MDMA) in coffee shops and clubs over the counter. That sucks your experience was like that. Makes me think twice about spending close to 10k for me and my wife to go over for 2 weeks.

I spent a lot of times at "smoke friendly" bars. You still can't buy smoke there, but you can have a pint and smoke weed with tobacco. Stone's Cafe in the RLD is one, one of the Bulldogs I think is another, and I was in a third, somewhere near the station, but spent most of my vacation trying to find these places.

Maybe you'll do fine if you thoroughly research "Smoke-Friendly" bars/cafe's before your trip.

Thanks NoExplode. I am trying to plan it within the next month, so I'll start doing major research. All my relatives live there so i'll hit up my cousins who are my age, I am sure they will know something.

Re: The Irony Of Holland's Smoking Ban

Just back from the dam..
smoking ban does not really make much of a difference.. smoked j's with tobacco in the shops and no one said anything..
asked the dealer in first shop and he said as long as there is no evidence of tobacco on the table ie torn up cigs or boxes then there is no problem... ie hide the cigs...

Aye, you can find plenty of coffee shops in Amsterdam that don't give a flying fuck. I was there in June and never really had any problems. I mean, for the people who get Napal Cream and all that... how do you expect to smoke a pure hash joint? Nah, they let you mix with baccy and in some coffees even the staff smoked cigarettes...
