Medical Marijuana Bill to be Introduced in Mexico next week

This is great to hear!!

It seems to me the big difference between the alcohol and marijuana prohibitions is the supply-side violence for the alcohol prohibition occurred within the US (leading to the repeal of the prohibition in 13 years). The supply-side violence for the marijuana prohibition is mainly happening south of the border, and as they say "out of sight, out of mind".

Quote:
Deputy Elsa Conde of the Social Democratic Alternative Party, or simply Alternativo, will introduce a bill to legalize the medicinal use of marijuana in Mexico next week. A press conference to announce the move is set for Monday, and the bill should be filed Tuesday, a day before the Mexican congress goes on vacation.

It proposes a system of licensed dispensaries to handle supply.

Last fall, Conde introduced a bill that would decriminalize marijuana possession in Mexico. The final bill in Conde's and Grupo Cáñamo's tripartite marijuana offensive, one that would legalize hemp production, is in the works.
Of course the ONDCP's legally mandated to oppose anything that might lead to legalization in the US, and the DEA has publicly sworn to do the same thing. So Congress is going to hear a lot of bs reasons why it should put pressure on the Mexican government to quash these bills. We seriously need a law change to keep the DEA and ONDCP out of business of creating social policy, they simply don't have the skills, intelligence, or empathy to be able to dictate the freedoms under which we are allowed to live.
