German dealers 'add lead to marijuana'

Drug dealers looking for extra profits apparently added lead flakes to packets of marijuana, inflating their value while causing dozens of cases of serious poisoning, doctors in Germany reported today.

The lead made up, on average, 10 per cent of the material in the marijuana packets, boosting profits by about $US1,500 ($A1,613) per kilogram, Franzika Busse of University Hospital Leipzig reported.

So many people mistakenly believe legislation means a marijuana free-for-all, but in reality legislation means the ability to control quality and restrict sales to minors. Things that are simply not possible today.

It took eight weeks to uncover a common pattern: all were young, smoked, had body piercings and were either students or unemployed. All regularly used marijuana.

i am totally with you about leglalizing. free the imprisoned stoners! we haven't hurt anyone. so we grow a plant that could solve most of mankinds problems and provide equality amongst it's people. we should be thanked for providing this public service. i would go as far as to say we should get tax breaks, and government subsidization for those of us that grow and provide clean oxygen producing plants.

If it's propaganda then whoever created it has been very successful. I just googled it and on the first page alone there is eight articles about it from four different countries.

I once said on this site that unless you knew who actually grew it, you never knew what you were getting, regardless of the fancy name it was called.

We can and should question the source and truth of everything we read or hear from the media, but common sense has to support the fact that as long as people are forced to purchase their product on the black market you could be ingesting anything.

I hadn't heard of this story, but it at least makes sense. The problem with a lot of these "help! my weed is spiked!" stories is that there's no motivation for the dealer to do the spiking. why waste the time and effort putting heroin or PCP in?

I do know that people in UK had widespread problems a year ago or so with some big suppliers bringing in weed with POWDERED GLASS mixed in to mimic trichomes.
