Cannabis connoisseurs in their thousands have descended on the Dutch capital of Amsterdam this week to sample and select the winners of the 20th annual Cannabis Cup competition. "There's a lot of good competition this year," said 'Herbal Santa' a longtime marijuana smoker from Orange Country, California, who, when asked for his name only offered 'Jim'.
Organizers said they expected about 3,500 participants. The week-long Cannabis Cup is spread out at various coffee shops throughout Amsterdam, although the main events are held in a club on the outskirts of the city, tucked behind a McDonald's fast-food restaurant and a do-it-yourself store. The event coincides with the annual U.S. Thanksgiving holiday, allowing participants from across the Atlantic to spend a week's holiday in Amsterdam. The event was started in 1987 by Steven Hager, the editor of New York-based magazine High Times that advocates the legalization of cannabis, and has become a key annual event among cannabis-orientated business and for many pot smokers. Judges pay a fee of up to $200 to participate in selecting the winners with their task to examine the potency, taste, smell, curing and overall experience of various herbs. Marijuana is technically illegal but has been decriminalized and is tolerated in the Netherlands, where it is sold in small quantities in "coffee shops." "People should come to peace together and smoke," said Arjan Roskam, owner of the Green House Seed Co., whose marijuana strains have won 31 Cannabis Cup prizes over the years. His coffee house is a frequent destination for visiting celebrities. "You see people from 18 to 80 having a good time," said Roskam. "It's a very friendly gathering."

To be honest i didnt know what to expect, maybe that wasnt the best mind to go in, but what i found was the "green district" of amsterdam, and by that i mean money greedy people with nothing else on their minds but whoring their products out to as many people as possible. Except at least the red light is honest about it. The cannibus cup tries to hide it under talks of legilization, "friendly" looking people, and a fake atmosphere, which was kept up only by the people who came who refused to have a shit time just because the organisers are idiots.
As for what do i expect from a bunch of stoners - you know my expectations are going down everyday having come in contact with people like u lol EDIT - cheers for the responce ak, glad to know there are like minded people out there. |

More and more I think the great minds of our movement should come together and draft a code of "use" or "conduct," so that people can see that we take Marijuana and our own actions very seriously. If I have anything to say about it all of the participants of the Cannabis Cup are going to know exactly what I think of them. "Avarice is generally the last passion of those lives of which the first part has been squandered in pleasure, and the second devoted to ambition. He that sinks under the fatigue of getting wealth, lulls his age with the milder business of saving it." ~Samuel Johnson~ ![]()

I would wait to hear more positive reviews in future years before spalshing out €150 on tripe. I dont mean that the cannibus cup was halfway decent or even worth the look. If i hadnt bought seeds there (which were the same price as in the seedbank) i wouldnt have had anything to do. I guess what im trying to put accross to u, is that i dont feel hardone by a festival that just went wrong, i feel completely and utterly robbed of my money. €150 i could have put through accomodation munchies weed or all of the above, i came back from amsterdam without so much as a grinder, as i spent my last bob on my final day, now €150 could have bought me a dam nice vaporizer, bong(s) or hookah(s), or even besides that itd could have been 150 off bills that i need to pay considering christmas is only a month away.
Cannibus cup organisers if ye ever get to read this, for shame, youve truly given up on the smoking ethics i have learned to love from stoners, and have instead taken on the money grabbing ethics of bankers which ive learned to loathe. I will never part with money for something that has a CC logo, or affiliation, and will do by best to ward off others less informed. |
