Proud marijuana grower's home video leads to prosecution

A proud marijuana grower made a home video on the progress of his crop which was used against him in an Australian court.

Melbourne police found the video, after they overheard Lee Stuart Momcilovic, of St Albans, boasting to an ambulance officer about it.

He pleaded guilty to charges of cultivation of a narcotic plant, theft, and handling stolen goods at the County Court. He will be sentenced at a later date.

The tape, described on camera by Momcilovic as "the art of growing skunk", takes viewers on a tour of hundreds of home-grown plants and related equipment at his home.

Prosecutor John Saunders said police noticed some cannabis and equipment when they were called to Mr Momcilovic's home in March 2000 after an unrelated incident.

But they later overheard him tell an ambulance officer treating him that he was "lucky" they did not see him hide his video camera, "or I would be f*****".

The Age says he was also accused of owning more than 400 stolen pornographic videos and an electricity bypass system.

Defence lawyer Charles Nikakis said Momcilovic had been a long-term user of cannabis, and that people in such positions sometimes "start to feel invincible".
