i suspect US intervention...
why? because nearly all military coups over the last half a century and more have been orchastrated by agencies in the USA.

tho im afraid that the US had virtually nuthing to do with it. infact, its against the US interests for this to happen because Thaskin was a lying cheating capitalist is the hip pockets of big $$$, just like our government is. bush and thaskin were buds. this all stems from when he gave his family his huge company and never paid taxes when they sold it. he is a scammer and needed to go a while ago. the elections a few months ago where a sham and the army and king knew it. the king still holds much of the power of thailand. his 'Council of Administrative Reform' said this dork needed to go and gave the army, who also hated the idiot thief, did it for him.

plus, the king put a muslim in charge for the time being. im sure that sticks in the craw of bush. this is the SE asia's verson of 'hugo chavez'.

the army has ruled thailand more than the parliment has over the past 100 years. in the 80's, there was like a coup every month there.

ive actually been exactly where those tanks are now. in '92, the last time a coup happened in thailand, it was a bloody afair. i hope this round isnt.

i know and love thailand greatly. its a beautiful country and even more beautiful people. but buddhists are so easy to push around and that is one of the saddest statement in the world. not to get political on ya but this is why i wonder that unbridled capitalism leads to beating on ppl that hold compassion over material. capitalism eats the commons and the people that hold those ideals closely.

I admittedly know very little about south-east asia, just enough knowledge to get by on Korea and Vietnam.

no doubt, this is a win for the good guys.

the real question is when will the elections come. if they have to wait more than 2 months, things could get ugly.

but thaksin's party is the ruling party. thailand effectively has 1 ruling party. so it will be interesting the next time elections come about. either ppl have to vote for another party, which may happen this time. or they vote back in the 'thai rak thai' party. and if that happens, thaksin may be able to get in the back door again. it could get messy.

i hope the ppl come up with a 'hugo like' green party but that seems like a pipedream as of now.

the thairakthai party has over the past years bought all the elections. literally handing money out to the poor to vote for them. ofc leaving them behind when they actually legislate. 200baht = 5$american but a good couple of days of work for a poor person in rural NE thailand. is really pathedic.
