Again this is just my own experince, I also used A Scotts mix once that was shitty the ph was way high and it had lots of bark, Very shity...choke with ya'll later
Same here OG'er, I use MG organic mixed with my own compost, little sand, top soil from the garden. You know the good stuff.

When you start with soil that needs all those additives including soil from outside (which really should be sterilized to get rid of potential pests) you are left with a soil that has a multi step process. What if I go to the local Home Depot or Lowe’s and they have Miricle Grow Organic but no vermiculite/perilite (this has happened to me before where they have one basic garden item and not another) and I have to go to two different locations? That’s a hassle. If you have noticed, 85% + of the kids who come on here are not interested, willing, or knowledgeable enough to start messing around with dirt especially for their first grow. They are on a limited budget and are growing a stealth grow with limited space. Maybe after a few grows they can start getting creative with dirt. Quite frankly I am not interested in dicking around with a 12 step process just to get good dirt. I like my dirt like Wal-Mart; 1 bag of decent soil is like one-stop-shopping.
P.S. Good results with Miricle Grow is absolutely not out of the realm of possibilities, usually just not with new folks who don’t know what they are doing.

thanks for those pics ganj, woulda commented back earlier but i just got back from my buddys house, it was a good night , those plants look really healthy, do you have to dump the water cause haulin around a Five gallon bucket of water is kinda shitty. other than that how do you plant a seed in those funky rocks like thatit needs to be reletivly grown before you put it in that setup doesn't it?

Some people put a rockwool cube in their setup and use that to start the plant. Personally, I just start mine in soil for a while, then When I transplant, i clean off the roots and put it into the net pot.

perfect timing for me to start then my sprout is in some miracle grow perfect time to remove it from there, and put it in a bubbler. the roots just set on some stones and then cover them with more so the plant stays anchored, correct?

exactly, then put the water right on the bottom of the net pot. You may have to water the plant by hand for the first few days, until its roots get developed, but the bubbles bursting from underneath the net pot should provide some water too. Plus the humidity in there.

^ I agree, I've used miracle grow nutes and mg potting soil in almost all my grows, and I only had your results pictured once.

silly people

i use any soil i can get my hands on, all you need is a ph tester. ive never had any problems with any soil.... check ur ph before you water and after, keep it at a clean 6.5 in soil and any soil will do. I have even stooped so low to pick up the cheapest soil in walmart... and the ph was horable :/ check it and fix it and ur fine.

imo, dirt is dirt.

It has nothing to do with the pH, its the time release ferts.

Not MG, but another time release soil. Schultz's Potting Soil Plus. After about a month and a half into veg, shit has been hitting the fan. Right now I'm basically taking clones off the two plants I had in Schultz's because they're dying dispite being fed all organic nutes (except for the time release in the soil), proper pH, everything. I've flushed them, I've tried all sorts of things, but they're still dying. I don't want to blame all of the problems on the soil, but I mean, I've never had this kind of shit happen with straight dirt. And lighting isn't an issue either, it's a 250W HPS. I wish I hadn't bought it, but at the time it was the only dirt I could get (the local hardware store only sells soil in the spring summer and fall) and I figured that since it had other stuff in it ("Premium blend of Canadian sphagnum peat moss, perlite, & organic materials") that maybe it wouldn't be so bad, but I was wrong.
