OK then, how to rescue?

Well, I wish I had looked to find these threads before I transplanted seedlings. Being the non-growing season there wasn't alot available for soil mediums where I live. So, I settled for - you guessed it. MG potting soil w/ time release. From most of what I have read, Satan itself.

I did add perlite to the mix and adjusted the pH to 6.5, so I don't think drainage will be too big an issue. I also watered with a dilute solution of SuperThrive in water. At first, they showed signs of transplant shock because I originally waited too long to transplant (almost 4 wks; was working on the road and couldn't do anything til I got back.) And last check, they seemed to be recovering (edge yellowing being restored to green color). But then I stumbled on these threads.

One other concern I have that may be connected to using MG. Yesterday when I looked at one of the plants I saw what appeared to be a gnat or other type of very small fly flitting around on the underside of a leaf. I wondered where the hell they could have come from, but now I have read a couple of posts stating that plants became infected with gnats from using MG. Is this really another valid concern of using MG?

My main question: I transplanted 4 days ago into MG potting soil. Is it advisable to transplant again into an organic medium not pre-nuted, or will this just potentially cause greater harm to my seedlings? I'm inclined to wait to see what happens, not fertilize until I transplant again (I'm growing these into clone mommies), try to deal with the little flying arthropod bastards, and be careful not to over-water. But if there is a worry-free method of transplanting again, I'd seriously consider it.

My guess is there are alot of growers out there reading this thread thinking the same thing: Is it too late to save them, and if not, how can that be done?

Thanks to everyone for some excellent input and a most interesting thread. And... Happy New Year y'all!

Happy New Year to you Goneja. Your plants look real good.

swampthing, if you can find organic soil go for it however, know that organic soil if it contains organic fertilizer, can burn seedlings too. However, organic is much easier to flush than MG time release. It sounds like you did the right thing with pH and pwerlite for drainage so maybe if you flush they will be OK. And yes, MG often has bugs in it. Maybe you saw my MG WW vs. potting soil thread in my sig? Major bugs.

Fox farm is amazing your all crazy i swear by it how could you all be certain the soil did what it did to your seedlings its there to amend your plants not kill it think about it

maybe your p.h maybe your temps maybe your water chlorine maybe you over/under watered maybe your light is wrong a lot of factors to think about

before you identify all aspects of your grow to the "T" there is no telling what did it

i mean who here is a biologist or has taken agriculture classes
think about it

I don't know about you guys, but I'm using MG for "Trees and Shurbs" because it was the only thing in my garage. Been flowering for almost a week and it is lookin bomb.

Honestly I think it is just how you take care of it during the early stages. At first I saw a tiny bit of nute burn the first few days, but it was smooth sailing after that.

Lucky trees and shrubs must have less nutes.
I also know that since this thread is a year or two now, that here in 2008 Miricle Grow CO. seems to have kicked back in their nute contents within the soil.

For the 50th time put some damn perlite in that soil and you get beautiful plants just like anyone else. Yall just need to learn how to adapt like this plant.

i have ran a test on that soil compared to organic foxfarm.
The Fox Farm Destroyed the Miracle Grow Potting Mix.
yield twice more as well. same white widow strain.
Miracle Grow is horrible soil for baby plants IMO.

I haven't tried miracle grow because of the stuff I've seen on here....But I did buy cheap stuff from Lowes Hardware called Sta-Green Vegatable and Flower planting mix.
My plants are as green as can be in that stuff and I haven't had to add anything except for blooming ferts.

I have tried soil ONCE with ONE plant. I had an extra clone in rockwool cube and i put it into "Miracle Grow Seed Starting" potting mix. It's not really dirt, its like an airy blend and the plant seems to love it. It grew very healthy and rich. I have been feeding it once every 3 days from the reservoir of my hydro nutrient (GH micro and bloom lucas formula). I even left it without feeding for 6 days and it seems like that didn't even phase the plant because it still looked rich and green. I have yet to move it into regular soil and still looking good while in its 2nd week of flowering. So i guess my personal and limited experience with MG is pretty positive!
