the reason i want to fert one with MG is that i've had sucess with it on two grows. first ever grow, three plants 280 watts of floros and finished flowering with 250w hps yielded just over two ounces (plants total hight was about 20" each), second grow was clones off of the first, two plants all done under 250w mh/hps yielded just over two ounces. not much but for my first attempt, not bad i thought. but i swallowed my stubborness and took everyone elses advise and went organic. i'm starting flowering on my current grow soon, so if i decide to do this it'll prolly be started around xmas- give or take a couple of weeks.

I get bales of ProMix from Agway, but I will say that you can use MG. I have seen awesome plants grown in it. I agree that little plants shouldn't be thrown in it because of the ferts, but I think if you limit the amount of ferts you give the plants, you can use MG. It will yield plants with just as much bud, and that bud will be just as good as in ProMix or any other soil.

He is right ISTAND ALONE... spanishfly that is, 2 ounces per plant is to me at least horrible, i have had 18-20 inch plants give me 4 ounces, like i said its not the size of the plant that matters.

2 ounces per grow, i would quit growing and just buy the shit coz it would come out cheaper just to buy it.

the MG soil may work for some, but trust me the growth is SLOW and Labourious compared to doing it the other way... and the end result is still to me mediocur.

well almighty dierwolf, for me jumping into this "hobby" knowing nothing about it and not really expecting my plants to make it to harvest, i'm satisfied. and, like i already said once, the 2nd grow yielded just as much with one less plant. so i'm getting better. and, like i said once, i've ditched MG and gone to foxfarm. and, like i've said once this one is shaping up splendidly. i fully believe now that if i hadn't used MG i'd have been better off. but I DON'T CARE. i started doing this expecting nothing from it. i got something. now i've invested in proper equip and nutes.
also, is there some rule on this forum that states if you have a bunch of green dots under you username it gives you the right to be a dick? i think there must be....

I used MG Professional Mix on my 1st indoor grow, had the same problem, so on my 2nd grow, I used str8 water and it worked well and only added fert for the flowering stage.

One thing I did notice, besides the burn, was the PH, it seems to have a high PH. I test my water ea. watering now and test my soil before dropping my clones.

I use Fox Farm now and it works wonders. It is a nice mix, no need for additives, the PH is almost perfect in every bag I test, and it produces great results.

I only grow small amounts for personal use, so I have no need for high-end mixes. Fox Farm has all the minor nutes I need and I only have to NPK once during veg. I use Ionic Bloom and Ionic Boost during flowering, and use str8 water the last 2 wks of flowering.

I think many people have problems w/ MG soils b/c they over feed the plants, or do not check the PH of their water.......IMHO.

yea, when i tested my MG soil it was like 7.5 ph. added ph down and that helped, but that's pretty high, isn't it?

Yes, 7.5 is high. When I still used MG, it always tested around 7.0, I think I had one that actually tested around 8. I found a place that carried Fox Farm, and it costs a little more, but I take 2 samples out of ea. 1.5 cu. ft and it has never tested below 6.0 or above 6.5.

Another thing I noticed about MG is it has big hard clumps and tends to compact as the grow progresses. I have never had that problem w/ Fox Farm.

MG may not be the best, but it can work if you watch your PH and feeding. Probably the best way is to just mix your own, but if you do not have the time nor place to do this, MG will work fine. I find that the MG Professional worked best when I still pinched on quality of soil. I'm convinced that a few minor investments on improving the quality of soil, PH, and nutes is best.....and it really does not cost that much more.

I live in the US, and so far, after trying 4 or 5 different soils mixtures and already mixed soils, Fox Farm has done me best and I have used it for the last 1 1/2 or so.
