Some Q's about 250 watt HPS's
I am new to this forum and very stoned while writing this so please forgive me if I stumble off topic or start rambling incoherently.I have never worked with any HID'S other than a 400 watt HPS and 430 watt HPS.I have been growing on and off for the past 7 years.
I am thinking of buying a 250 watt HPS which will be housed in an A/C reflector and in a 2' Wide x 2.5' Deep x 6' Tall prefabricated closet/cab.I currently have the 400 HPS in there giving off 80 wpsf and 10,000 Lpsf if hung 2.25' above the tops.I don't think this is too much light,it's what Jorge Cevantes reccomends but the heat I am dealing with is too much (82-92F) but would be perfect if I could cut my central A/C to 65F (thats alot of electricity) or if I could exhuast outside or into the attic (it's an apartment.) So.....Like I said,I have been thinking about a 250 HPS. I know some of you will say,oh you won't get any yeild from that unless you SCROG.I don't want to do this never liked that method. I want to do a perpetual S.O.G. cutting off the height in my cab and making two sections, one for veg, small clones and a small mother`which I will first obtain by growing out a pack of seeds (topping and LST style after the 4th or fth node and every other two or three nodes after per branch) from a reputable breeder in which I hope to find a pheno-type in.After 4-6 weeks veg Each clipping I take (2-4 per plant) will be rooted and sexed, all males and male donors will be killed while the female clones are left to finish. As I wait for the sexed clones to finish I will keep pruning and lst'ng the mother plants. Once (and if) I find a suitable/favorable pheno-type I will save just that.Immediatly after harvest and cleanup the mother will be heavily but gently pruned for fresh cuttings which will be rooted and then veged for a max of 1 week. After a week of veg the clones will be placed into the 250 HPS flowering section where they will remain until harvest. I figure using the 2 litter method I could fit about 10 or 12 clones in the flower section where they will hopefully finish off around 1 foot tall (1.5 max) if I use 3"-4" cuttings that are 4"-6" rooted and vegged clones (I like indicas and hybrids with alot of indica in them). What do you think I would yeild with this setup and teqhnique? My goal is for 2 ounces every 30 to 45 days so hopefully I would get 4-8 grams per plant given temperature and humidity are correct. Also I plan to have the 250 HPS no more than 8" away from tops of plants. Help me setup a ventilation plan that works with my indoor ambient temps and goals but doesn't add too much electricity cost to my bill. Some ideas of mine are: Getting a cooltube with one end open for the 250 HPS and keeping my 4" 170 cfm inline for cooling the 250 and venting the flower section, intake by passive intakes. The veg section could be exhuasted by small axial fans. Another idea: Get the cooltube ,leave one end open, get a 6" 440cfm vortex inline with solid state speed controler and use that to cool the 250 HPS and ventilate both the flower section and the veg section. Any ideas are appreciated, also how tall should I make each chamber (remember I only have about 6')? Thank you for taking the time to deal with my stoned and more than likely illitterate post. ![]() |
