a couple growing questions
K so im probably gonna start growing soon, and i was thinking of growing about 10-12 plants in this shed that my parents NEVER go in, but i was thinking about a couple issues
First off, i dont want it to smell, cuz im gonna grow some pretty potent stuff.. I was wondering if this air purifier would work, i have two of them and my parents spent over 400.00 a piece on them. Also will i run into any issues of it taking away the CO2 in the air and leaving just O2? http://www.ecoquestintl.com/corporat.../fresh_air.asp my next question is that this shed used to be full of mice, and has been closed up for many years, so it is full of dust and torn up foam insulation right now. the reason noone goes in it is because all that is in it is a gigantic 3000 gallon steel water tank (which im thinking of growing a different strand in) how should i go about prepping the shed to eliminate spore/mold issues, should i just starelize the whole shed? Other then that im ready to start growing, i already have thermometers, insulation, electricity, barometers, lights, heaters, ph testers, air conditioners, ferts, and everything to keep the the environment perfect, the only issues i have now are air purification, and the shed prep. so i hope you respond soon! Im really hoping to grow some good stuff |

get an air purification system, some mouse traps, disinfectant, and dont grow on your parents property without their permission
(cause they'll be the ones sitting in jail if you get caught)

thanks for the actuial advice hippie john, But i think iil be ok with me growing on my parents property because my dad smokes too, so dont think he will mind, i might even run it by him before i start, also do u know where i could get some sort of air purification system? like just something that sucks in air through a hepa filter or something?
Mustard, "strand" was a typo, you dont have to assume i dont know what im talking about because i typed a word wrong... that has nothing to do with what im asking anyway ive read guides but that doesnt even matter, i could write a guide... I KNOW HOW TO GROW so u should lay off that subject and actually help, not criticize. As for lighting, I have two 1000w hps bulbs and ballasts, i dont know why u even care.... |

I asked the questions I did to make sure I wouldn't be wasting time answering yours. I'm not sure if you've noticed or not but a lot of people who come to this board asking questions about growing don't know the first thing about it. You've got 7 posts, of which offered very little insight into whatever growing knowledge you may posses. By asking you if you've read grow guides helps me determine whether your some kid that might know something or might not. Furthermore, a lot of people will come on here expecting to grow with a few fluros. Which is a redflag for ignorance. That's why I asked about the lights.
You might want to scratch that air purification thing. You'd be better off using something else to keep the smell down. http://www.overgrow.com/edge/showthr...5&pagenumber=1 That's a link that may interest you. It may prove to not be suitible for your application. Especially if you plan on growing in the shed, and not in a box in the shed. Now if you grow in boxes that you build in the shed, (I'd recomend it) then that would be perfect. An Ozone Generater would also be a good buy if you can afford it. It would also help prevent mold and mildew from coming back. http://www.sgs-hydroponic.com/search...zone&Submit=Go |

Yeah, he obviously knew that. Why else would he worry about the air purifier taking away CO2? |

Thanks mustard, i can see how u could think that i dont know my stuff. being as you said. i only have seven posts on this forum.
I think i might go with the carbon filter idea, it seems easy and cheap, but i might go the extra mile and get the ozone generator. When i get everything prepped, i will post pictures of what it looks like all set up. I think its going to be pretty good, and i think growing in the steel tank might be a plus, given that it has about an 8' radius, and the whole inside reflects light just the way the dull side of aluminum foil would. from top to bottom. It also has a drain on the floor, so i will not have to lay out plastic which i think is a huge +. |

Do you know exactly what exhaust system your parents dropped that money on? Is it a Dayton blower or similar? If so, that's perfect, and you can check OG for examples of how to make your own carbon filter, some even work specifically with dayton blowers... here's a link..
http://www.overgrow.com/growfaq/t151 check out the carbonfilters and carbonscrubber faqs... peace.. As for your grow area, yes you'll want to get it as clean and sterile as possible.... Or you could always get a large cabinet/cabinets to grow in... Might be a little easier, allow perp harvests easier... and save some work... just something to think about...

Ok ive been reading up on the air purifier i have that i mentioned in my first post for quite some time now.
Here is some stuff i found: This product does the exact thing as the Ionic Breeze in the infomircials. It ionizes the air. I know that the positively charged particles cling to everything but thats not too big of an issue given that it comes with a carbon filter, and a really expensive hepa type filter called an "ecohelp" filter that sits behind the carbon filter. So it turns out that i wont even need a different filtration system if this air purifier works out. it seems that the only thing that i have to worry about is that this air purifier emits about 360 mg of ozone an hour, ozone an unstable molecuel that contains three oxygen atoms. now the idea is supposed to be that since the molecuel is unstable, a single oxygen molecuel will break off and attach to odor molecuels, turning them into different molecuels and releasing co2 (carbon dioxide.), o2 (oxygen, durr), and i believe just H or hydrogen as a bi product , correct me if im wrong. But, i also heard that o3 or ozone that doesnt attach to odor negatively impacts photosynthesis by reducing the amount of co2 that the plant can process, i read this from a study done by the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. This clashes with many stories that ive heard of people using ozone generators in their grow rooms, so could someone clear this issue up? has anyone actually used an ozone generator in the same room with their plants? |

Ozone generators are regarded as one of the best odor removers from even the most pungent plants.. I do not believe it has any negative effects on co2 intake by the plants, go on OG under that link I gave ya, and it specifically talks about ozone generators...
