Re: 18 or 24

do 18. 24's not really worth it. i'd do 24 if you are rooting clones, but for vegging, give 'em 18. if you do 24 they take longer to sex and i feel as if they transition slower from vegging to flowering.

What Ed Rosenthal said is you don't save any power using the 18/6 light cycle. You just grow your weed slower. I happen to agree with Ed on this point.

Need the dark

"Do plants need a dark period during the vegetative cycle?"

Does marijuana require a dark period during the vegetative growth stage? I recently read a grow book that advocated an 18-6 light cycle during the early growth stages.

One way in which plants are categorized is by the way they gather and handle carbon dioxide. Cannabis is a C3 plant. It uses the CO2 it gathers during the light period, when it is photosynthesizing. Plants designated C4 also gather CO2 during the dark period for use during the light period. Many C3 plants, including cannabis, do not need a rest period. They continue to photosynthesize as long as they are receiving light.
The plant's photosynthetic rate determines its growth rate because the sugars are used by the plant to build tissue and for energy. Cannabis under continuous light will grow 33% faster than the same plants on an 18-6 light regime.

Re: 18 or 24

C'mon guys this is a frickin no brainer....

c3 plants (cannabis) does not need a dark period. It does not work like c4 plants where they gather CO2 during the dark period to use during the light period. Cannabis can use it all the time.

What that means is if you veg 18/6 it will take you 43 days to reach the same size of a plant running under 24/0. Which will be the same size as the above plant after only 30 days of veg.

Both methods use the EXACT SAME AMOUNT of electricity, you just put your harvest off by at least 13 days is all.

Clear now?

Re: 18 or 24

(in order of posts)...
Well fuck... The One person out of a select handful on GC i will NEVER argue MJ with....
Mother Lickin' Rumpleforeskin....
atleast i got a GC legend up in here!!
and now.. i must be going.... to go wipe the pats off my back and change my timer....

nah i'm not changing from my 18/6. i live in a place that gets mega fucking hot in the peak afternoon sun hours, with bad/possible no insulation, and i use that 6 hours to cool my op off, and gain as much "cool" as possible in that time frame or else i would have heat issues.

Yeah dude, I'd go with 18/6. I'd assume with a 24/hr light schedule, the plants would stretch quite a bit, no?

Thank you sir, finally someone everyone will shutup and listen to. (I don't mean that in a rude way.)

People like to argue personal opinions all day long, even after facts have been laid on the table though.
