| Small closet SCROG grow set-up with links...PLEASE help a newbie
Hey guys, So I am attempting my first SCROG grow in a closet that is 23" deep X 58" wide X 8 feet tall. I have never grown before and am looking at the following equipment for my set up. Can you please give me some help with this...just want to make sure I have the proper set-up for the lowest temperature possible in my environment. First, I am lucky enough to have a buddy that is a master electrician and will help me wire for all of this. My grow area is 23” deep X 58” wide X 8 feet tall. First, it looks like if I want to use HPS I need to have a vent out of one side of the reflector to reduce heat. This will push the light to one side of the closet. Will this screw up my attempt to evenly distribute the light? Do they make a reflector with a top mounted hole for exhaust? Bulbs – I NEED HELP WITH THIS. I am using a 600W HPS ballast…but someone suggested using a MH for vegging and HPS for flowering…. Can someone provide me links? Ventilation – Completely confused about this as well– Do I need two separate exhaust fans into the attic? One that connects to the reflector for heat and one next to it for additional airflow and to control smell? you are right, mh for veg, hps for flowering. Also, if heat is a concern I would go with a sealed hood with airflow flanges. I use the radiant6 a/c. I costs around 200 and comes with a lens, cord, and built in flanges. Also if you cant afford to get two bulbs look into the eye hortilux 430 hps. It provides more blue than other HPS and will do good in veg. Not as good as a MH though.

yes. I only use a 6" inline duct booster to cool mine and my temps are lower than when I used CFL. Hydrofarm - Active Air ACFB6 In-Line Booster Fan, 6"

How about this? Seems as easy and attaching it to a reflector...hooking up a pump..in/out lines to a reservoir. http://www.sunlightsupply.com/hort/products.aspx?request=FRESCA_SOL_LIGHT_SYSTEM&title=Reflectors&type=product Sound right to you?

here is a place with the tube and two different reflectors... http://www.kalyx.com/store/search.cfm?RequestTimeout=480 You think the wings or the tent is a better reflector...? Damn...I really need a low profile 50 Gallon reservoir that fits between 23" and 58"..... I have been Googeling all night and can't find one skinny enough.

First off man you dont need a MH for veg. HPS will work from start to finish no problem. MH is nice to have but IMO it isnt worth spending the extra cash to get a MH ballast in the long run. Your results with an HPS will be awesome with or without a MH for veg. Plain and simple. Secondly if you dont have a hood yet, regardless of the type you want it will have to be sealed and vented-no question about it. That being said I recommend being a cooltube. Super small compared to most hoods and very effective at cooling the light bulb. You can hang it vertically or horizontally if ever need be. Just some ideas for thought and or consideration. Also running a single 600w ballast; digital or not, wont require any internal home electrical modification unless your place is super super old but still I couldn't imagine that. Also your grow room it self will really benefit greatly from a mylar type material and I would recommend a heat blanket from walmart or sporting goods store. Super cheap and super effective. And if oder will be an issue I would start looking into ways to cover it or remove it and the best method is a carbon filter witch attaches so nicely to the cooltube. Goodluck

yo tx, all those links were broken. I assume you are talking about a liquid cooled tube? I have never used one. I don't think liquid cooling is necessary below 1k watts. My 400 is in a 3x3 tent and the temps are low 70s. I can keep it 18" away without damage. I haven't had the balls to move it any closer though.

Go see Bill @ Discount Hydro on Richmond, he can help you with everything. But let me put my 2cents in... besides reading other journals on here for all of your answers I'll try to advise.... You never said how many plants your planning on running for your closet all you need for now is to exhaust your heat from the light, if or when you have odors you can add a scrubber later, one 250cfm vent will work. Temps & humidity? don't get too concerned yet, its winter & you'll be fine till summer. Just monitor them for your learning curve. If you don't have your lights picked out yet you may want to go with this switchable MH HPS available in town. Texas Hydroponics &... You can veg &flower with one fixture, all you need is 2 bulbs. For air pumps, just buy the commercial pump and get it one time. I started with cheap aquarium pumps from Petsmart then went with the dual diaphram then now the commercial. It was a lot of money wasted trying tosave money. You need as much air as you can get them and this is where I went wrong, your res temps have to be 68 degrees. thsi will be OK during the winter but you'll never get that during the summer with out a chiller. At 68f you get 100% DO retention @ 80 you get 5% DO Everything else will be fine. p.s. you'll need a RO system too. Trust me on this, you'll need lots of good RO filtered water.
