NORML is pleased to announce that House Bill 2929, which seeks to "regulate and tax the cannabis industry" in Massachusetts, will be heard by the Joint Committee on Revenue on Wednesday, October 14, at 10:00 AM in Room B2 of the State House.
As introduced, HB 2929 and its companion bill, Senate Bill 1801, seek to legally regulate the commercial production and distribution of marijuana for adults over 21 years of age. These measures would impose licensing requirements and excise taxes on the retail sale of cannabis.
Adults who possess or grow marijuana for personal use, or who engage in the non-profit transfer of cannabis, would not be subject to taxation under the law.
Senate Bill 1801 has been referred to the Joint Committee on the Judiciary.
House Bill 2929 and Senate Bill 1801 propose to make Massachusetts the first state in the nation to enact a rational public policy for the control and regulation of marijuana. Please show your support for this measure by contacting your state elected officials and urging them to support these common sense proposals. If your elected officials are members of the Joint Committee on Revenue, then it is especially important that they hear from you. For your convenience, a pre-written letter will be e-mailed to your state senator and representative when you go here:

State Senator Benjamin B. Downing
Chair, Joint Committee on Revenue
