Re: Our First Grow Journal

All thats good and well, but i wouldnt go spending money on all that expensive stuff until you have a good hang of what your doing. You can pull off decent grows using the bare minimum. My first 2 grows all i had was miracle grow soil and shultz 10-10-10 liquid ferts. I made out quite well. Do a grow or 2 first to get your feet wet before you shell out lots of money on higher end stuff.

Re: Our First Grow Journal

If you're gonna do it... do it right.

Miracle Grow WILL kill your plants.

want inexspensive?
search LC's Soilmix on ICMAG

get some pro-mix @ home de pot (big bail of soil for cheap)
perlite
earth worm shit
chicken shit (you're a country boy right? bet you could get some of this...) hah ha
dolomite lime (necessary for pH) ((can be found at farm supply store cheap))

mix it up and grow.

Wrong...

I did 2 grows, all the way out, using NOTHING but miracle grow seed starter and miracle grow organic garden soil and shultz 10-10-10 all purpose plant food. First grow i had 1 female at about 1 1/2 oz (at 22" tall and taken 2 weeks early) and second i had 2 females that were 3 1/2 oz combined and also under 2 feet.

Re: Our First Grow Journal

MG organic is a different story than reg MG ha ha... I was under the impression you were suggesting just the regular MG soil with time release BULLSHIT. anywho...

Miracle Gro Organic still won't be the best you can do for the money. Do a little research on nutrients and what plants need and when. You can make your own soil mix once you understand this stuff. A lot of stickies have good info. should scan those hoes.

A soil mix can be as easy as 30% perlite 70% soil and water with a tea made from shit (literal) and black strap molasses. You can make some sick teas with easily accessible nutrients. sea weed extracts and earth worm castings. Do a little research, you'll thank yourself later.

oh for sure dude! Since FFOF and "all the fixings" costs about fifty bucks.... That's not low cost? IDK WHAT IS!

Re: Our First Grow Journal

anyways TN, all bullshit aside, either way you go you can be successful. What you have now will definatly work if you had more lights, but your final product will be better if you have spend the money on it...up to you...

Re: Our First Grow Journal

And one last thing, make sure those lights are attached really well. I had the same ones when i used CFLs and more than a couple times i had a string of them fall down and destroy a plant or 2. It really sucks to come home from work to a wonderful smell only to realize its because your lights fell

Re: Our First Grow Journal

56 watts will do you ok for one plant while vegging but your going to need alot more when it comes time for flowering if you want a decent yield...

Remember dont be confused to its incandescent light equivalent output...its still only a 23 watt bulb

We are going back to home depot at some point to get 5 five Y-splits and have 10 bulbs on the plant at flowering

Re: Our First Grow Journal

Mix up the sprectrum's flavors for your plants and they'll return the love.

grab some...

2700ks (23w)

6500ks (26w)

and i even use one or two 5000k (27w) "full spectrum" bulbs for supplemental light

heavy on the 6500ks for veg. and heavy on the 2700ks for flower.

let me know if you don't get it.

Re: Our First Grow Journal

spend $250 on a 400w HPS light . It will serve you so much better than having 10 cfl's hanging.....thats just my opinion. It also helps if you can get clones or a seed of a good strain. Genetics are key.

Re: Our First Grow Journal

Going 12/12 from start is going to give you 1 bud. If you're that impatient, just buy some weed, kinda not what "growing" is about.

If you DO really want to run a 12/12 cycle, germ up a dozen seeds and put each on in a 20 oz plastic soda bottle (Topped, obviously). No need for a big trash can for 1 plant that's a foot tall.

Re: Our First Grow Journal

Ok guys here is our 2 day old seedlings. We decided to go 12/12 from seed experimenting with our first grow and lack of space.

We currently have 8 lights and was wondering do we need more? and what do you think about the distance we have them from plants?

Thanks for the help guys. will keep you posted
