They weren't really on a manhunt, like they weren't chasing him straight from the scene of a crime, they just knew he was here sometime. And yeah, better safe than sorry considering when that happened they broke into the house, no one let them in. Cops in this town are dicks. I think we are going to wait till we move out of a city area to grow. We need to go and live in the woods again. There's actually a small town in our state that doesn't have a police station(its like 75% woods) they just have a statey who patrols. We'll probably go there lol.

Oh trust me, you could smell it. We keep our grow cabinet ventilated with dryer sheets on the fan to make it not smell so much, but somedays we would come home and you can clearly smell it outside the house.

Don't feel bad and don't listen too much to all the folks giving poor legal advice here.

If the dogs were truely alerting on your place and the cops noticed, you have a reasonable fear there - not paranoia.

And to those who are suggesting that such an incident couldn't lead to trouble you are all quite naive sounding. Do you really think that if the cops pick up on the dog hitting on their place they won't investigate a bit further? They may not have a warrant in hand but its impossible to guess if they couldn't show up with one a few days/weeks later and conduct a raid. Better safe than sorry. Plants regrow, felony charges stick.

Hell I'll ask my co-worker, he's going for Crim Justice and knows I'm growin pot and doesn't give a rats ass. He doesn't know where I live, but hes smoked before and doesn't care at all. Pretty sure cops need a warrant, more than a dogs bark... not that I don't believe whoever it was said that they were studying it, but I'd rather have proof in paper or a book... or my co-worker that I KNOW is studying it.

Yeah you should ask him and let me know what he said. I mean right after it happened before we destroyed our plants I tried looking it up online but everything I found was just if you're in your car, not if it's a house.

Its naive to assume that the laws regarding police entry and inquiry are the same in every state, or even county. Additionally, cops normally wont walk up to your door if their dog barks at your house, but im sure the dogs could smell your plants, and if they were worked up enough, the police can get a warrant in 24 hours based SOLELY on the suspicions of the K9. You were not being paranoid; depending on where you live, you may have saved your ass.
.. Even if you did take it to court, the police got two plant from you, and need only to claim that yours was a suspicious residence, and youre toast..

I don't know of any trainers that teach barking as an alert signal. They DO teach them to bark on command as an intimidation tactic.

I guess we did jump the gun a little.
but you're right, they totally could have gotten a warrent.
The cops probably could even smell the weed we just smoked which is enough as it is
