To mist or not to mist

I'm in week 3 of flower asnd I'm hearing mixed opinions on whether to mist the buds or not. Some say mold will be an issue.

What's your opinion or experience? Personally, I think the plants are supposed to be able to get wet. You don't see a lot of them pull up their roots and run for shelter in the wild, when it rains,...right? lol

I have been misting about an hour after lights on and again about 2 hrs before they go off

Re: To mist or not to mist

I must say that I have never misted during flowering, I know some crazy folk even mist their buds while they are drying to add to drying times but I think its insane. I lost a whole crop due to mold when I was a noob and didn't have fans, now I would avoid potential mold at all cost.

Good luck as I say Im no pro but wet bud sounds plain wrong on an indoor grow.

Re: To mist or not to mist

I think you would have to factor in the overall humidity of your space. If your grow space stays fairly dry with low humidity it may not be an issue. For a room with high humidity it would most likely cause problems. I would not do it through late in flowering though. Why not concentrate on your roots and their uptake of nutes?

Also, the outdoor thing is a whole different ballgame. They are subjected to a lot more stress and are able to withstand extremes. Outdoor growers have problems with mold too. Some strains are more mold resistant than others also. Some things to think about.

Re: To mist or not to mist

I totally agree with US and IL. It's fine doing it in the veg stage (and maybe a week or 2 into flowering), but not while the plant starts to bud.
You've been given reasons not to do it, what are the reasons for misting a flowering plant in the first place, are they drying up or something? Is you humidity very low?

Re: To mist or not to mist

No, I keep reading that we are trying to duplicate the natural environment. It doesn't stop raining in nature just because they are flowering. Didn't seem like such a stretch of a thought. I'm not risking mold either way though.

Question answered, all set, thanks guys

I don't think you're trying to duplicate the natural environment indoors, you are trying to make anything and everything as easy on the plant as possible, so the only energy the plant expends is towards veg growth or flowers. You are trying to eliminate all the things you would normally have to worry about that would be a problem or might lead to problems. Good luck man, happy growing!

Yea, I get that. Does a lot of wild growing weed get molded?
