hahahaha. so true. + rep

to the op:

that question is ludicrously vague. What size plants, growing style, hydro?, grow space, mylar?

Re: 20 plants

dude, look at the manufacturer's specs and see the sq/ft coverage. Before investing in a 1000w maybe you should do some homework.

Re: 20 plants

A 1000w hps will cover 4x4 plus a bit if you need.

Re: 20 plants

uhmmm no. a 400w will cover a 4x4 if you need. a 1000 watt is rediculous for 100 plants, that wouldn't yeild shit. 20 plants is actually about right though.

wow LGM you're trying to say that 25watt/sqft is right........... ummm i think not. The 1000 will give you 62.5 watt/sqft which is far more optimal than the 25watt/sqft you'd get from a 400watt. I really wouldn't go over 4x4 though with a 1000 watt hps, you could do 5x5 and get 40 watt/sqft..... And also the post by evilhoodlem was a sarcastic joke (which apparently didn't register with you) Twenty plants isn't about right unless your doing a sog, I'd say 8-12 is optimal for the majority of common grow styles.

Re: 20 plants

dkkon, you're going by cfl standards. A cfl goes by 100 actual watts per ft^2, but hps lights are much more efficient that you need less watts per ft^2.

Re: 20 plants

This is an excerpt from post #12 in this topic:

http://forum.grasscity.com/absolute-...-lighting.html

"WATTAGE -- COVERAGE

For best plant developement especially during the flowering stage your garden will need approximately (Lets just say at least) 50 watts of HID lighting per square foot of illuminated area. Below is a general guide for choosing the right wattage for your garden.

A 250 watt HID will illuminate a 2' x 2' garden.
A 400 watt HID will illuminate a 3' x 3' garden.
A 600 watt HID will illuminate a 4' x 4' garden.
A 1000 watt HID will illuminate a 5' x 5' garden. "
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Like i said you can do 5x5, hell you could do whatever the fuck you want but it comes down to the results you're looking for. From my grows 4x4 with a 1000watt hps is a damn effective garden (average of about 3.5 oz from 9 plants in 4x4 space, a total of 2lbs every 9wks)
