trubble indoors

Hello all, I have come into some trouble. I am working in an attic enviroment. the roof is 6ft high and the room is in the natral triangel shape. i have plenty of room but every thime i plant my seeds they do not want to sprout for more then a week. I have a green house that i can use but i dont want my room mates to touch my shit. I have access to topsoil, and all other types of dirt. do you have any idea what could be going rong, is an attic to dusty or something?

Question

Do you germinate the seeds first?

Well, if your in Pennsylvania, this time of year an attic will get too hot during the day to grow anything decent.

I put the seeds in a pot filled with about 2" of good soil and then I put some water in it.

the room i am in is above a bathroom so it's always humid. What is the max temp/ best temp I should be working at???

In that case you better germinate your seeds first before putting them into the soil. There are various ways to do so, but the easiest way is to put the seeds between two layers of wet tissue and store them at a dark and warm place (say 84 degrees) untill they pop open and the little white tap root appears.
After that you can put them into the soil 1/2" deep. Keep the soil humid and give them light (natural or fluro's). Best temperature is around 75 degrees; humidity around 80%.
Hope this helps.

For germinating, I find that soaking your seeds for 24hrs or until it cracks slightly and then into the paper towels in an airtight container.

just make sure that the attic is lightproof too...
