Indoor 1000W HPS Soil setup need help

Well guys and girls,

I want to get as much feedback as possible for my up coming seasons!

I have:

1000W HPS Aircooled hood 6" duct
1 floor fan with 1500 CFM
1 duct fan with 250 CFM for cooling light only
1 digital Temp and Humidity meter
1 vicks vaprozor/humidifier for moisture, but it's not working good enough
25ft of 6" ducting
12X12X9 room right now and only using about 6X6X4
(am buying a 4.5X4.5X7 grow tent ASAP to throw all this in)
6 lovely ladies(clones)
1 5200btu window a/c for temp control
Fox Farm Ocean Forest Soil & General Hydroponics Flora Nova series nutes
I am running light at 17 on and 7 for vegg and 12 on 12 off for flower

I am going for Quality not Quanity!

I'm in week 2 of vegg right now and here are some pix of what i got going on any feedback would be very helpful!

i even had one break in half when planting into soil and still has somehow made it thru and doing ok!, shows how sturdy these plants really are when it comes down to it!

any other home methods would be helpful!

read tht rubbing alcohol and a lil dish soap with water does a ok job while the mites are just settin up shop..so i just sprayed the plants down real good making sure to get under side of leaves the most, lets see how it works!...dont have a ride to the store to grab some No Pest Strips yet

Should be using a MH right now for vegetative growth.

i know..but having 2 light setups is costly...i am tryin to get the Super blue HPS bulb from hortilux..it has both MH and HPs in one bulb! I know it's gonna be very very pricy tho..I'm on a tight budget at the moment since initial setup costs were not small! I got a great deal on my hood and light...was $300 out the door for hood, balast and bulb...1000W HPS...It's a cheap GE bulb but it works for the time being.

tmorrow will be 2 weeks exactly...but i didnt have the HPs on them till Saturday, so this sat is gonna be 2 week with lighting...I think they are doing ok right now except the small amount of spider mites i have..i have already sprayed them down with soapy water, now to sit and wait

Re: Indoor 1000W HPS Soil setup need help

More on my strain, was very good reading!

Granddaddy Purple (GDP)
[Apothecary]

Indica
Origins - Northern California
Flowering - 60 days
Harvest - Mid October

Apothecary specializes in creating medical strains. They have been growing and refining this all-indica variety for five years. Her ancestors have grown in the hills of Northern California for over two decades, where her phenotypes have been known by many different names including Grape Ape, Purple Erkel, and Grandaddy Grape Ape.

As an indoor crop, Granddaddy Purple is equally happy in hydro or soil. With a pure indica heritage, this plant is predisposed to a short bushy stature. Granddaddy branches extensively, making her less than ideal for SOG style grows, but she can be trained to make an awesome super crop garden. When left to her natural tendencies, this strain will make a nice big shrub that reaches about 3 feet indoors or up to 8 feet outdoors. She is a hardy grower with tight internodes and dense dark green to purple leaves.

Granddaddy Purple is easy to work with throughout her growth cycle. She likes a cool temperature, between 70-80 F, and can be very forgiving so long as she is adequately watered. Due to her high resin output and dense structure, this plant can be alluring to mites.

Granddaddy Purple finishes her flowering cycle in 8-9 weeks. The buds are dense green nuggets that gain royal purple hues as they mature. Depending on the size she is allowed to reach, Granddaddy Purple can yield between 0.5 and 3.5 ounces apiece. outdoor plants will really deliver, with potential yields between 8 ounces and 5 pounds.

There is a potent, undeniable grape tinge to this plant' aroma, and a sweet grape taste that lingers subtly on the tongue. Granddaddy Purple's effects are enduring, with a smooth even feeling throughout. For an indica, her buzz is surprisingly alert and energetic rather than sedating. This is a good smoke for walking in the high meadows and swimming in the lake afterwards. Medicinally, this varity has given relief to cancer / chemotherapy patients. Granddaddy Purple has taken first prize in no less than four pot competitions: The Inglewood Medical Cannabis Cup in 2004, and the Green Cup in 2004, 2005, and 2006.

Well just got my first electric bill and HOLY COW!!! I gotta make some changes FAST! Been having to run my home a/c to cool off room right now and with light at same time is way too much!!!

so I'm looking into fastest way to get a grow tent or build it...I have to get a smaller grow area to control it better! a room my size is too hard to control without big big heavy duty stuff...so I'm kinda worried cuz I'm on a super super tight budget right now too...so has to be extremely cost effective for my to spend anything on!

but everything is going so great right now !! the side growth is amazing..i never seen side growth like this on a plant before so very young!!! I'm very impressed!! will be very very bushy!!! the more buds sites the better!

AWESOME for getting the air-cooled...i need to run my outvent for hood farther away from plants too...i gonna buy a longer piece of hose to run it out of the room until i get the tent/box..I'm stressing dude..the bill is ridiculous like $700 but we have a huge friggin house too...so dont get scared..LOL...I have 4 bedroomd and 2 floors to cool off

well i will keep you updated with new adjustments!, thanks for sticking around! LOL

OOh I plan on veggin till they are 12 inches tall then flower...i guess they double -triple(most say triple) size after you begin to flower so if i want 3 -3.5 feet tall plants i need to flower them at 1 foot correct?

and i read an awesome post on nutets! just a simple and easy way to remember...it's better to give alot of small meals then a few huge ones! plants do not "overeat" if it's there for them so better to be able to give them more then not being able to take it away!...Makes perfect sense if you think about it...you can fix a nute problem by adding a lil and honestly no harm is done to the plant other than a day of recovery which is almost nothing compared to over feeding and not being able to fix it...once it's burned it's burned you cannot take nutes out! so it was some good reading...

Pepsi-if you cannot find the breakdown like i did for your strains let me know and i will look em up

LOL

actually i believe it is HARDER to keep a smaller room cool than a larger one using the same lamp set-up in each...

i have a dedicated AC in my 5x5x8ft grow room with a 450cfm inline fan pulling the heat from only the light as well as a 300cfm fan exhausting the air. i am also running a 1000w lamp set-up and my temps are 77F during the day when light are ON. 72F at night when the light are ON.

just to clarify both above temps are with my 1000w light ON. just oneof the temps is during the day and the other when the sun goes down and my light is still on

my bill was about $300 a month but should go down next month as i start flowering soon and that cuts bakc my power usage by 6 hrs a day so about 1/3! so hopefully during the next two months my bill is closer to $200 hehe

I was just looking into a window a/c unit..i dont have $300 for a nice portable one like you probably have I found a few on craiglist for cheap right around the corner and was wondering if i dont put it in a window can i still use it in the room? i want to run my light exhaust to the a/c intake but what about the a/c exhuat? is it worse than the light? my room is 12x12x10 and I'm only using about 5x5x5 right now will end up at 5x5x7 probably, so that is why i was thinking a tent or box..plus the fact it has pre made vents to expell heat faster and i just assume it would be more efficient in removing the heat from the plants and i can deal with the outside room another way.

my bill was about $300 a month but should go down next month as i start flowering soon and that cuts bakc my power usage by 6 hrs a day so about 1/3! so hopefully during the next two months my bill is closer to $200 hehe

Re: Indoor 1000W HPS Soil setup need help

hey man.. i got your msg.

in order to keep that room cool.. you'll need a more powerful exhaust fan venting to the outside.
It looks like it's just pulling hot air back into that same room or anopther indoor room.

the duct fan at the end of that, is just not powerful enough to cool a 1000w light... maybe IF you vent it outside it might, but you want to look into a vortex or can-fan.
that'll cool things off 10-15 degrees and keep your AC from having to work so hard.
