like everyone else just starting, i have temp problems

Whats up gc,

i've been reading a lot on here and want to thank everyone who writes the stickys they helped me out a lot along the way

I am starting my first indoor grow in my closet in a micro cab, its about 1'deep 2' wide and 2 1/2' tall. I have one 85 cfm fan blowing out of the top of the cab and another fan blowing over the plants. My cab isnt that big i thought the 85 cfm fan would be enough to circulate the air around, but i don't know why im hitting temps of 95. Im thinking maybe my intake isn't big enough, im going to drill more holes in the side this time right where my fan is to circulate the air( I have abig hole in the bottom already) .

heres a few pics ill add more when i get batteries for my camera, and ill add more info later.

they are in backyard soil
growing under 23 and 26 watt cfls
not sure of pH

any help/feedback would be great

Edit: in the first 2 pics i think i have a computer fan blowing over the cups but in the last 4 i switched it to a big fan for more circulation

You should be fine as long as you have fresh air which is the key. Also air blowing over plants helps dissipate heat but in nature plenty of cannabis plant grow in temps in the 90's.

This is true. But I'm sure there is a lot more co2 in nature also. Heat will affect the plants ability to intake co2 at its full potential. But it will still grow. just slower than at a lower temp.

You maybe want to take into account the air flow pattern in there. The thermometer only reads the temperature of itself, not the entire cab. So if the air doesn't move near the thermometer it's gonna to get a little warm pocket in there.

Do you have a passive intake and an active exhaust?

Re: like everyone else just starting, i have temp problems

the temp outside the box is room temperature, about 75 degrees

i have the thermometer resting in between the cups at about the top of plant height
i left for a few hours today and it got 101 degrees in there.

i have an active exhaust but i dont think all 85 cfm are being used, because i have it attached to a 6" square gate from lowes that goes to a 3'' diameter circle

NSD at Lowe's: 9" Square Grate - Green

like that one but ony 6'', i cut out the spokes for better airflow too. when i put my hand by the exhaust its not that powerful but it is hot air.

I will take detailed pics of my exhaust/intake holes and how i have it set up a little later tonight. Thanks for the help guys i hope i can get this worked out before i start flowering and get my filter ready

EDIT: the temp was at 101 when the door was cracked about an inch open to.. i can't think of how that could make it hotter but im not sure... also the cabinet is completely hidden like under a rack of clothes and behind shoeboxes so that might restrict airflow to my intake vents or the hot air might get circlulated back around? i dunno

Re: like everyone else just starting, i have temp problems

If it's rated at 85cfm and it's not making that little box the same as the room temp I'm gonna go on record and say that it's definitely not an 85cfm fan or it's being restricted way too much. Try putting an active intake as well, or cutting away any restrictions in the way.

How is the fan wired up? Is it a PC fan?

Re: like everyone else just starting, i have temp problems

yeah its a pc fan i bought at radioshack from the store.

this is a link to what it looks like, but it doesnt say the CFM on the site

Thermaltake 120mm Fan (Black/Red) - RadioShack.com

i might have to re-do my exhaust tho, considering a bigger fan because i need to get a carbon filter on there somehow to, but its a relatively small space i didn't want to go huge

i have 2 of these same exact 85 cfm fans, i could put one as intake if needed. like i said hopefully i'll have detailed pics later

Re: like everyone else just starting, i have temp problems

So what is powering that fan then? Are you using the correct rated adapter? Right voltage, right amperage etc? If you are using a less than 12v source it won't go it's rated speed.

and this is the adapter i bought off amazon ( i think its the exact one)

Amazon.com: Universal AC/DC Power Adapter - 168-Adapters-in-1 for Computer & Electronic Equipment: Electronics

its set at 12v for full power

i did have 2 fans which were .38amp each connected to the 1amp adapter but switched it to just my exhaust fan to the adapter to see if it would make the fan run faster

no pics yet tryin for tommorow

thanks for the help t33to +rep
