HPS wattage

im no rookie to growing, but the only growing ive done was outdoor. (here was me and a few friend's last grow http://forum.grasscity.com/recreatio...ml#post3103965 )


this will b my first attempt for growing indoor growing and i just need to clear up a few confusions i have of HPS lights;

what wattage should i get for doing 3-4 plants? i may have 2 plants/per pot. i saw a guy on TC who had many seeds per pot and it turned out great (i always thought it was a no-no).

i was thinking 150-250 watts would b ok for this; what do you think?

btw i still have fox-farm nutes from my summer grow

I have a 250 right now,... depending on how tall you are planning on gowing them I guess you cood do 3-4 small plants...3 max for me...finishing at like 27" high.

how much did you see your electric bill go up? i would prob veg till about the same height

IMO 400w would be the best. you could prolly do it with a 250 and some cfl suppliment

My electric bill is nominally higher,.. not really much, but i have a veg box, with a 150 watt HPS cool tube,and 150 watts of cfl light also... He's right, a 400 would be better, but i got a smokin deal on 2-250 watters I just couldn't pass up... I built my flowering cab out of an old metal 2-door locker... you know the kind, with the bar for hanging stuff in it? So I have a basically 24x 18 x 40, with a section walled off with shelves for my ballast, fan, and nutes, etc. I modded the hood a little bit, cut a hole and added some ducting, it kinda works like a restaurant hood, no lens on it..but i may still do that. So a 250 works for me, and I have another 250, I'm not using right now,... when I get a new cam, Ill post my pics,... I'm far from a carpenter, but hey, shit grows in 'em and they work well for me! the kinda guidelines I always got were... 150 watt hps... 14" square
250 watt hps...18" square
400 watt hps....24"square

Even though you have seen it done, I would give each plant its own pot. Less hassle down the road if you want or need to transplant and it eliminates stress on the plants for having to compete for food & water.
