Re: All About Lighting

JC thank you for that it was very informative.

I've been contemplating switching to 1000w dual arcs. They have a 600wHP and a 400wMH. What are your feelings on that? This will strictly be for the flowering phase as i already use MH for vegging. Do the benefits outweigh the loss of the 400W of HPS?

I've never grown or smoked it but lowryder plants are an autoflower species. I also read in a few articles that it's described as a different high but also with good narcotic type pain relieving effects. problem would be that those plants are short as hell man...

jc77d suggested master kush, which i'm sure is awesome but i don't think it's autoflower. maybe you could buy seeds and cross both to produce tall, autoflowering plants? good luck!

Re: All About Lighting

alright i was wondering about using a single halogen light that is 50W.... does any1 know what this equates to in lumens? and if i should add a few incandescents possibly? it will be a single or at most 2 plants and only a micro grow (stupid dry winter months) also i hear that putting the light too far from the plant will cause stretching but i know that halogens put out a lot of heat so i was wondering the closest i should be getting w/ it (its adjustable)
also- will running an HID 24/0 cause any damage or excessive heating?

Halogens and Incandescent lights are both unsuitable for growing. They use up LOTS of electricity, put out LOTS of heat and don't put out very much light for the ammount of power they use. Not only do they have crappy efficiency; the light they put out is mostly in the wrong spectrum for plant growth. Incandescent lights will cause stretched out plants, and halogen lighting runs so hot you might as well INVITE the fire marshall to your house.

As for safely hooking up a HID to run 24/0, yes you can do it, yes it's probably easy with some basic safety concerns, I haven't done it though, so ask around and good luck

Re: All About Lighting

yeah i had confused halogens for a lil bit there sorry.... i still don't get why incandescents are still so widely used they are just too inefficient but eh i guess in due time we'll finally start adopting CFL's and such
