Soil storage question?

I purchased some promix, pearlite, garden lime, and pre mixed organic fertilizer with 15 different ingredients, rather than add them all individually. Anyways, I mixed them all to form my own custom soil mix, and potted a foot or so tall large plant I have in the soil in a 2 gallon pot. The plant's growth since the repotting is the best looking growth I've had from my experience with different soils.

My question is... I have 2 white widows that are about 7 inches tall so I repotted them in the same fashion as above, except that I had been storing my custom soil mix in a large plastic container in the bastment with the lid on it... I opened the container and there was moisture built up inside from the high humidity since the container was sealed, and a thin layer of fluffy white mold (?) was present on the top of the soil. It had only been sitting in the bastment for about a week or so..

Anyways I mixed it all up, small smount of fluffy mold included, and used the soil to pot my 2 widows. Is this in any way whatsoever bad? I don't really see it being a problem but I know nothing about mold and/or its possible effects on the soil of which I'm trying to grow in. Thanks to anyone for any advice in advance!

mold is never a good thing unless it's what you're wanting to produce. it can be very harmful to breathe in. i wouldn't want to be messing with soil that is now full of mold spores.

My soil bin where my spare soil is kept gets a little bit of mold growth on the top of the soil level. The container stays warm and the air is very from the soil. I've never had any problems using the soil. There are some fungi that are harmful but many are near to completely harmless to you and your plant. The shit growing in your soil could be very different then what I had growing in my bin.

I see... There was just a fine layer on the top of the soil like you stated, and it was diluted into a decent amount of soil, like 5+ gallons, so I'm doubting it will hurt. Like you said, I would believe that most mold is harmless to plants and as long as the conditions it had in the bin (high humidity high temp in the bastment) are not continued, the mold shouldn't be able to grow anymore anyways. I'll see how it grows I suppose lol seems fine so far..

although it is important to ensure your plant has a good environment. it's more important that "you" aren't in an environment that could be harmful. those spores are still viable. you don't want to be breathing in something that could possibly make you ill. just my opinion.
