High Pressure Metal Halide?? Any thoughts?

Hey all,

Has anyone else heard about High Pressure Metal Halide? There's a couple on ebay right now--I'm looking at a 175 watter for about $100. They say that this new type of HID light has the ability to give a more complete color spectrum, and it's basically being hyped as a metal halide that can work double duty and flower as good or better than an equal wattage hps. sounds like a good deal for a small cab. Googled and got some crazy technical crap that I don't understand and about two forum posts that I read.

But none of the posts offered any user experiences. Anyone use a high pressure metal halide? Are they worth a damn? I won't post the ebay link but searching 'high pressure metal halide' will probably bring up the one i'm talking about.

Any thoughts would be nice or maybe any link to some grow journals or something like that would be cool.

They are called "WARM METAL HALIDES" and yes they work great.

hmm that's weird. I googled warm metal halide. So basically it's just the bulb that is giving a spectrum in the 3000k range? The ballast is pretty much unchanged, so i could use a 6000k spectrum BULB in the ballast? or are they not compatible?

I bid on this thing thinking it could do double duty. Would I still get the same vegetative growth if i'm basically just using a metal halide lamp that discharges like an hps? Man the ebay ad looks a lot more gimmicky and shady now. I hope i could just change the ballast.

they're basically just selling a metal halide ballast with a warm spectrum bulb?
