yes they'll work, but you won't get huge plants. HPS is a better choice if you can keep the temps. low

I've got one for some babies and it's working great and is almost nothing as far as power goes. They have a good spectrum and can easily be interconnected with more as your plants grow. They're pretty much just vegging lights though- I'm switching over to the HPSs for flowering.

T5 lights are great even when budding under them. The heat output is much lower then HPS and I love how even the light distribution is. I use two four foot four bulb lights and use 6 flowering bulbs and two veg bulbs to keep a nice wide spectrum but mostly in the 2800. I used to use them for veg but now use two 150 watt cfls which are even cooler and the plants veg great. The t5's grow some serious buds under that amount of light and heat is minimal. HPS can grow bigger buds but more wattage is needed and the heat is too much for many. Hope this helps

t-5's are the shiznit! you could do an entire grow, but they don't penetrate the canopy much. they're great for vegging and keeping mothers.

T5 lights are great for veg and for rooting clones. Any further than that I'm not too sure about.

T5 Ho

Only use T5HO's for Veg they don't do well for bloom.
With that said - they are amazing for veg, we use agromax "Grow Spectrum" 4' blubs. My current is a 6 bulb setup I picked up on a steal from HighTechGarden.

Bloom:
I use 2 - 400 watt SHPS hortilux ADV's in eurocool hoods.

Make sure that the bulbs you buy are the right spectrum and the MUST be T5 HO (High Output) not just T5
