Getting Ready To Try Growing, Could Use Advice

So my friend and I decided to start growing in his closet because the weed in our area is complete shit. We are most likely gonna sell a little just to make our money back from the costs of lights, electric, ect...

Anyway, my friends closet is pretty big, but he doesn't want to use the entire thing because he doesn't have any where to put all the stuff that is already in his closet. We are trying to figure out how to isolate the area we want to use. I heard using sheets would work well. If thats try I was thinking of using black sheets to string up the area we want to use and maybe put up white posters on the inside of the closet and on the sheets for more light. He has a bar running thru the top of the closet that has a shelf directly over it and we figured we would use that to hold the lights up and we would just prob the plants up and lower themn down to the ground as they got bigger.

The space are are going to use is about a 2.5 foot square area. We are gonna try to grow a few plants. A friend told me to go with Top 44 from weedfarmer.com because they grow straight up and don't grow out but grow up instead which would be good for our small space.

Not sure what we are gonna do with the male plants yet if we get any, but we can figure something out.

I'll try to get a picture of the area we are gonna use.

Any advice or corrections I should make about the way we are gonna isolate the plants from the other half of the closet or about anything else I mentioned? Any tips will be appreciated.

Okay I will try to help you.

1. Do not get a plant that grows up straight learn how to LST it is best in these tight grows.

2. Isolate? Why? Please explain more.

3. Males. Either kill them or make hash/canbutter or keep to mate with your fems for seeds.

4. Again why do you want to isolate half of your closet?

5. Ventilation is going to be a big concern so make sure you have a temp gauge.

Either way Isolation is probably the last thing you want your plants crave fresh air.

How much are you planning on spending on lights? That's where your money should go for better buds.

And for your first grow I'd suggest going bagseed. You really don't know how it will all turn out and without proper experience the genetics wont make any difference. Even if the weed around you is shit. Your still not wasting your money...

Also i know nothing about weedfarmer.com but if you look under Seed Banks forum on this site where people say which ones are reliable to order form. If you do end up ordering.

Also if you are in the USA definitely use one of the recommended sites or you have like a 60% chance of getting nothing back.

Id also add, even though I am in all sense of the word a noob, to make sure you dont skimp on where you decide to grow your plants, I started in a open container (cabinet) that wouldnt reflect light, had horrible ventilation, and bad humidity. Once i got my tent and my intake/exhaust setup, the little guys seem to actuially be trying to grow very well as before they just kind of grew at a slow rate. Id also recommend NEVER selling it, the reason I want to grow is to have good bud, save money, and not deal with alot of the low lifes around here just to get skimped on a shitty 1/8th, not enter my name into the local police departments names of people to have interest in. People find out your growing, they might want to rob you, tell on you if you make them mad etc etc... Id say in the US just grow for the pleasure of growing (something im finding is better than smoking ) and to smoke some good bud, consider your (loss of money) a investment that in the end will save you thousands, and hassle.

By isolate I mean divide the closet area and make a seperate room for just the plants. Its a huge ass closet, probably 10 feet wide, 3.5-4 feet deep, 9 feet high. The thing is just huge, we don't need all that room, and he has a lot of stuff. He doesn't live with his parents, he lives with his gf and his roomy.

We already started with bag seeds. Put them out on his deck which is fine because there is plenty of light and its high enough where no one can see anything on his deck. They already sprouted, maybe 2-3 inches now. We are gonna buy some lights this week most likely. Not sure what kind. We woudl like to get 2 or 3 females going if we can. There are about 8 sprouts right now so as soon as we know the sex we will separate them.

We were prob gonna set up 2 fans, one inside blowing air out and one outside blowing air in. The aren't gonna blow directly on the plants.

And what is LST? Never heard the term.

And sorry Bobs, I must have posted that right as you finsihed your post. Thanks for the input.

your best bet for a light will be either a hps or mh like a 250 watt light, or you could just got with CFL's but like whywaitforit said, better lights mean better buds. Just keep the temps under control, and have good ventilation.

Low Stress training its a much more effective way of getting light to all of your bud sites. And does a lot more than topping your plant does. You basically very lightly tie down the plant so everywhere on it recieves the same amount of light. And you can keep them all at the same levels so they all get the optimum distance from your light.

Its good to have an oscilating fan that actually does blow directly towards the plants. They need the air. So are you planning on doing sea of green (SOG) style growing or are you planning on vegging a smaller number of plants? The more space you use the more plants you can have. With only a 2.5'x2.5' space, your kinda limiting urself 2 how much you can grow. And just so u know man... males SUCK!! you don't want them at all. Especially in your first grow. You can't smoke em! The more plants you get going, the better your chance of getting some girls. So look up sea of green and vegging and stuff and see what you wana do. Thats kinda the 1st thing u gotta decide.

I figured with the males I would try to make hash. I thought that was just about the only usefull thing you could do with them?

Another question. Hydroponics or soil? Kinda confused on this issue.

Hydro if you know what you are doing Soil if you don't. Hydro is more expensive then soil as well.

Does going hydro make it any harder? I heard it helps the plant grow faster. If thats true how much faster in terms of weeks/months?

From the questions your are asking I can tell you would not be ready for hydro. One mistake with Hydro will kill your plants fast. And yes it is faster if you know what you are doing..... how much is all dependent on many many many other things.
