What is the purpose of repotting plants from small one gallon buckets all the way up to big five gallon buckets? Why not just start out in the five gallon bucket and save the time and effort? I've looked around online but can't come up with anything...If anyone can give some info, that'd be sweet

not really to much man just that plants roots arent that big at first and you would be flooding the soil towards the bottom cuz the roots arent sucking any of that up and water would build up persay before tha plants would get there possibly causing root rot once the roots get to the FLOODED portion of the bucket. Most start out in party cups first which are 16oz by the way before the one gallon buckets for the same reason.

from what ive seed seedling in party cups grow fast seems like seedling in bigger pots spends more time growing roots idk maybe its just me

I replant from party cups (seedlings) to 1gal to 5gal.

The basic idea is that you have less soil so that when you water the roots can pull in what they need and still have plenty of time where the soil is dry to expand the root mass. This method creates a nice solid root core and helps nutrient uptake when it matters (flowering).

Thanks TK. It's the roots that I was curious about, but what you say makes sense. So it's safe to say that repotting makes your plants uptake water more efficiently?

More space, less hassle, less soil, less water, less light, etc..etc..

Bigger the pot, the more room it has to grow. As an outline, 1 gallon per foot is good.
