New Sprouts.. Help!
OK, I moved my germinated seeds to plano cups 48 hrs ago and most of my cups have new plants in them that are 2 inches tall already. Their growing extremly fast and they got a yellow/browish look to them. Is that becase there still young? Or is there a problem?
When do they need to go under a light? (I currently have thnm in a styrofaom cooler with high humidity (lid on-I fan them frah air) The soil they are in now, has no nuites. At what point do I want to start adding nuites? Thanks all... Its finally here! |

I'll work on getting some pics up. The soil is PROFESSIONAL POTTING SOIL by MARGO. I have not checked the PH in the soil. Right now i do not have it under any light, its still in my germinating styrofoam cooler wit the lid on (Darkness). I have a 1000W MH standing by. I just went and looked closer at them and the leaves look like their just about to open (they are a very light green color almost yellowish but still green). Each plant is still in a "Upside down J position". I will work on getting some pics up asap...Sorry if I'm jumping to conclusions

Ah yes! Nothing to worry about. They will have a little browning to them before they open up from the inside shell casing. If you gently spray them with a spray bottle it will help erode this casing and assist them in opening up.
The upside down "J" shape is normal as well. Good luck keep us posted.

anony could confirm when to put them under the light, but I know that the first "leaf set" (the round leaves, called cotyledons) are not actual true leaves- they are basically plant food, and the plant grows using energy from these leaves before they begin to turn green and photosynthesize, so that might be what you are seeing

I might add a light nute mix prior to two weeks but that depends on the soil structure. I would recommend 24/7 lighting for the vegetative stage because photolysis rquires light as a catylist to produce glucose; therefore, 24/7 lighting could give you 33% more growth potential. Resspond with comments or questions.

If I changed it to 24/7, would that make them grow faster as well? Also, Do you have any recomendations for nutes to use and a soil that I can transplant them into? I looked into fox farm ($20) a bag is pretty expensive. I read so many differnt temps to keep them at. Whats your suggestion? Thanks Doc
