HPS too close

Iv had 4 plants under a 400 watt hps for 2 weeks now for the flowering stage, I have the light 9 inches above the tops of the plants, and the tops of the plants are turning white, is this because the light is too close? How high above my plants should the light be? If the leaves are burnt should I cut them of or should I just let the plant heal itself? Please respond, I need to know before I ruin my harvest, iv put to much time and money in to this.

Hi There Try Moving It About 12" Away From Top Of Plant This Should Help ... Or You Can Bend Top Of Plant Over And Tie It To Lower Branch It Will Still Grow ... Hope This Helps

A good way to tell is place your hand right over the tallest part of the plant, if it feels hot or uncomfortable then you too close. You can get pretty close to a 400w bulb without burning, mine are about 5/6 inches away...I think for 400w hps you can get as close as 4". Use a fan.

Which part of the plant is turning white? leafs? or the new bud development? lol.

1 foot distance should be there between your plant and lights.

9" is fine mate, dont worry about what seems like your plants turning white ,probably just new pistols as only in 2 weeks flowering, not be burning your babies.
as for leaves only remove them if at least 50% damaged,ok!..

yep try the hand trick; put palm on top of plant leave for 10-20 seconds & if too hot for your hand then too hot for your babies, so too hot adjust too suit etc...mind keep adjusting light as time goes on

Thanks for the info, but the pistols are growing just fine, its the new bud growth that is turning white.
