can someone explain the concept of the bubble bucket to me?

I read the awesome thread about the bubble bucket and it looks awesome. I dont fully understand how it works though. Can anyone explain it in lamens terms to me?

also, would the bubble bucket be too advanced for a first time grow? I like it because it looks fairly easy once it is all set up and the results look amazing!

In laymen's terms, a bubble bucket is a bucket filled with water, with an "airstone" at the bottom. This airstone is connected by a 1/4 inch plastic hose to an air pump. You can get both the pump and the airstone at any petco.

The airstone takes the air that the pump feeds into it and distributes it into bubbles, which feed the plants roots with oxygen, allowing the roots to be submerged under water without ill effects.
