never remove any fan leaves, they act as solar panals collecting light & converting it into energy for growth. u can tuck, tie back, or trim part of the leaf to get better light penitration. or add some cfl's around the sides.

if you can't tuck it pluck it! there's "no" problem with pruning. the key is not to do too much at any one time. stretch it out for a couple days. fluorescent side lighting is pretty much a waste. in order for them to do any good, they must be very close. you do that, and now you're restricting airflow. i'm talking about fixtures like t-5's. the bulbs would be totally laughable. if you keep your plants at a height that doesn't go much beyond the lights penetration depth, you don't need to worry about the sides.

To each there own but i would bend those suckers at a 90 degree angle and tie down.

Then tuck adjust or how ever you wanna move leaves around and lower the lights.Try to bend the plants to get as close to a even canopy across the top of you grow.

But removing leaves would be a last resort for myself.
