so i've got 3 plants and im getting the lights soon. 400 watt hps. and a 175 watt metal halide...do you think i should use both or get rid of the metal halide?...how long do i veg now from seedling cuz i was doing it with flourescent light and sun but vegging 24 hrs????????????

I answered your question already. 24 hours of sunlight during veg is good, so is 18 hours of light / 6 hours of darkness. Vegetative state usually lasts around 2 months.

It takes a plant roughly 2-3 monthes to reach full maturity, and during that time you should see preflowers so its always a good idea to go that long so you can weed out the males before you start flowering. How long you veg is up to you, the longer you veg the bigger your plant and the more you will yeild, although there is a genetic limit to this but im sure you wont reach that point growing indoors.
As for the hps / mh question i would go with both for flowering if you can, its always good to have both ends of the spectrum wile flowering.
I would do 24/0 for the first couple weeks, once the plants have a couple fan leaves i would cut it back to 18/6 to give them somewhat of a photo period to use the food they made with the lights on.
